Cycling from Rathkeale to Wellington, raising money in honour of our mate Finn for his sister Grace.
Wellington
On April the 10th we will be riding a relay from Rathkeale College-Masterton to Wellington in memory of our mate Finn and to raise money for his sister Grace Yeats.
In 2012 Grace was airlifted to starship due to an unknown cause of encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). Since then she has been diagnosed with anti-dopamine 2 receptor antibody encephalitis, the 13th case worldwide and worst documented. This has left her with brain damage affecting her motor skills and severe dystonia (muscle spasms). She is unable to sit or walk and struggles with speech, mainly communicating through different gazes. Amazingly Grace has not been affected cognitively and is able to think and understand as before.
We lost Finn two years ago when he took his own life. We’re also doing this to raise awareness for looking out for your mates and hope this encourages others to get some mates together to share a new experience or challenges.
We all met and became close friends with Finn when at University in Wellington. Finn always stood up for us and had our back. Looking to pay this forward and make him proud.
Funds raised will be transferred into the Grace Yeats Trust for Finn’s birthday on April the 15th. Grace needs special equipment to help make life easier for her and frequently travels for appointments.
