River Hapuku has dedicated his life to supporting others in their time of need …… he is now the one in need of support
Levin, Manawatu-Wanganui
Raymond (River) TeAwa Hapuku was diagnosed with stage 4 Lung Cancer on 14/10/2024.
River is not accustomed to being the one in need as he has dedicated his life to supporting his diverse community and extended whanau in Levin and throughout NZ.
Since the age of 9 River has been of service to others. He became aware of his gift as a spiritual worker and through his understanding of nature and the balance necessary to promote health and wellbeing he has supported many over his 67 years.
As a kaumātua in the Ratana Ministry he has guided many on their journey through the challenges of life. Now he is in need of a little help and it isn’t easy for River to be the one asking!
As a horticulturalist he has a deep connection to nature. He is currently not able to do this physical work due to his illness and his loving wife Pauline has also had to take time off work as a carer in a local rest home ……. They are hoping that it is only a matter of time before they can return to their work of giving to others.
In the meantime they are significantly challenged with the financial strain of not working at a time when River needs to focus on his own health and welbeing for now.
River is soon beginning a treatment protocol of radio and chemotherapy and is surrounded by the love and support of his wife, family and community in Levin.
River has been working as a Gardner for my Mother who was living alone … he always went above and beyond the call of duty …. He often Popped in for welfare checks on his days off and made her feel safe and secure in the knowledge that she was not alone
Paying the for bills/living costs and alleviating the worry of financial strain whilst River focuses on treatment and getting better
A message from Pauline 18 February 2025
On behalf of my husband, would like to say a huge appreciation and thank you to all those who have donated to my husband Raymond Te Awa Hapuku Cancer Jorney prior to his passing on the 25-01-25. It helped us both during his time of need.
As one now needs to come to gripps with his passing to carry on with one's life into the future, which will become a struggle into the near future as we all know.
Kia tau te rongomau
Me te aroha nui
Pauline 💙
