REMEDIATION NZ CHALLENGING COURT FINDINGS - WE NEED YOUR HELP!

We won in Environment Court—help us defend that win in High Court & protect our awa, air & community!

Mimi, Taranaki

We won at Environment Court—thanks to the community’s generous financial support!

The North Taranaki Awa Protection Society joined Te Runanga o Ngāti Mutunga, Urenui & Mōkau Rural Healthcare Inc., and Taranaki Energy Watch defending Taranaki Regional Council’s (TRC) May 2021 decision not to renew Remediation NZ's resource consents. This had included attempting to compost oil and gas waste and other contaminated material at their facility.

Remediation NZ is now challenging the Environment Court findings in the High Court to overturn them and renew their consents. Judge Laurie Newhook’s decision included that in many scientific areas there were substantial gaps remaining on matters, also saying there were adverse effects on water, soil and air. There is also a legacy of thousands of tonnes of contaminated waste on the site. We need your help to legally defend the Judge’s decision.

Families living close by the site and the river have been fighting for years to get the site closed due to major health concerns, offensive odours, and effects on the awa. They gave evidence in Environment Court.

Please help us raise $8,000 towards the cost of legally defending the Environment Court decision in High Court; we are extremely grateful for anything supporters can contribute.

Ngā mihi,

Richard McClutchie,

President – North Taranaki Awa Protection Society

Use of funds

We’re raising $8,000 to cover legal costs for defending our Environment Court win in the High Court. This will help protect our awa, air, and community, and ensure Remediation NZ’s consents are not renewed. Every dollar helps!
