Hi, I’m Mateo De Marco, also known as @mateo.2shifty, a proud aspiring basketball player from Napier, and I’ve been selected to represent Hawke’s Bay at the 2025 U18 National Basketball Championships in Christchurch, held from 30th June to 3rdJuly.
This is a huge step in my basketball journey. Playing at nationals is not just about competition, it's about passion, growth, and putting Hawke’s Bay on the map.
It’s my first year on this amaizing team. I’ve worked hard to earn this opportunity through countless hours of training at places like Pettigrew Green Arena, CANI Academy and with my school team at Taikura Steiner School.
Any amount—big or small—helps me get one step closer to the court and the dream of playing at the next level, like the NBL (one day). Your support means everything. I will commit to be a sports ambassador and give back to the game for the coming generations.

I’m back from Chch, got home last night!
It has been an incredible experience. Unfortunately sickness ran throughout our team, and I ended up with a bad cold the last days. We won 4 games and lost 3. I am confident that if we were in good health the team would have make it to the finals. Despite this we have spent a great time together and developed new skills and experiences which we will continue to build on both independently and as a team. Sports is all about competition against others and with oneself, but it’s also about character and teamwork. You have been part of my team by supporting me with your amazing generosity and good will. I feel humbled and blessed to have you in my team as I go on in my journey. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
