Robert's battle against Acute Myeloid Leukaemia

  • 2 week break

After over 6 months in various hospital settings, Robert is currently back home for a short break. As you can appreciate, this is an emotional time for Vicki and Robert as they have really missed their friends and family plus the familiar 'support' that comes from being home. They have been incredibly generous in putting some of their energy behind the 'Host a Roast' fundraising camping for the Ronald McDonald House Charity. Thank you for your continued support and prayers for Robert. The various treatment plans are still going ahead at Starship. The recent shingles diagnosis added further adjustments to control the pain that comes from this 'unwelcome' ailment. Robert and Vicki are understandably fed up with being away from home and living in the hospital environment for so long. A recent visit and interaction organised by his teacher around the hospital dog provided much needed time with animals. They really appreciate and welcome any distractions to ensure spirits are kept high.

  • Challenge continues

      2 May 2023

Vicki spoke to the doctors yesterday with an update on some results. The official report is still coming but they have been informed that possibly some or all of Robert's thyroid will need to be removed. Please may you continue to keep Robert in your prayers.

  • Making progress

      25 April 2023

After the stem cell procedure, Robert went through some challenging times with a spell in ICU. This was to give him increased care and monitoring after his weight had increased over 10kg his usual weight due to fluid retention. He is gradually on the mend and definitely looking forward to getting out of his room after all he has been through. Your thoughts, prayers and generosity continue to be very much appreciated.

It's great that Robert's father was able to help Robert by donating bone marrow. Steven remains in Auckland supporting his son. As he has throughout this whole ordeal

Robert has been on his treatment plan for a while now, it’s been a bumpy road the past couple of days as he had a CT scan reveal a small blood clot in his chest - apparently not uncommon with these kinds of patients. Vicki has been staying up at the hospital with him as loneliness and boredom have also kicked in. Robert has also been told he will be having daily injections in the stomach for 6 or so weeks so understandably not a ‘happy chappy’ about that. A recent sibling visit provided much needed strength and support for everyone. The slightly poor photo is from the time the Hospital had a power cut.
