Let's help those whose lives have been uprooted by this year's most powerful storm in the world.

In Bicol*, Philippines, we'd identify ourselves as "oragon": a local word from our dialect which means strong and brave, and embodies our resilient spirit. Yet again, this resilience is being tested as Super Typhoon Rolly (Goni) had struck our region last week.
A simple search on the internet would reveal hundreds of photos and videos of devastation. Houses are either destroyed or buried in mud. Tens of thousands of residents are curled up in evacuation centres. The power supply and communication networks may take months to be restored. All of these amidst the struggles and threat of the COVID-19 pandemic.
I am pleading for help to support my fellow Bicolanos start anew. No amount is too small. Any donation you make will likely reach them in late December, giving them some glimpse of hope as the new year begins.
We have partnered with local groups and volunteers who will directly distribute the aide to those who have been affected. You may email me at ppat787@aucklanduni.ac.nz if you would like to receive updates on the proceeds of your donation. I'd also keep them posted on this page.
Thank you so much for your kindness.

Sir Lance is a friend (he's the partner of my sister-in-law's sister) in Legazpi City, Albay, Philippines, who is currently organizing relief efforts in his area.
*Bicol is a region comprised of six provinces. The region is geographically located at the southeast of Luzon (Philippines main island) which means it faces the Pacific Ocean. For this reason, Bicol is usually the first to suffer the onslaught of tropical storms which average to 20 per year.
I was born and raised in Bicol, Philippines. While NZ is now my home, Bicol holds a special place in my heart.
All the proceeds of this fundraising will be used to purchase relief goods to be distributed among the victims of the typhoon. The recipients are likely to come from the different provinces that have been severely hit by the typhoon.
We're very grateful 21 December 2020
We are tremendously thankful for your donations and kind words.
We have forwarded the collected amount to Sir Lance Briones, who has partnered with different organisations to maximise the reach of our help and boost their outreach efforts.
Through your help, we were able to send bags of rice to residents of Dap-dap (Tiwi), Comon (Tabaco) and Malolos (Malinao) - all situated in the province of Albay. This is alongside the assistance extended by Mariner's Polytechnic Colleges of Legazpi City who donated construction materials and relief packages to the said residents.
We have also partnered with a local NGO (The Happiness Movement) for a Christmas activity for 100 kids of Agos (Polangui) where we are donating a hundred pairs of footwear and some grocery packages. This is in addition to the warm meal and school supplies that the children will be receiving during the event.
We are also planning to extend some aide to Joroan, a far-flung community in Tiwi. We may not be able to reach them in time though for Christmas as we are also waiting for additional funds from our other external partners.
