Roof repair needed. Tetraplegia spinal cord injury

$12 of $900 goal
Given by 5 generous donors in around 4 months

Im unable to undertake these repairs myself due to my current medical situation i am not cleared to be working.

Ross, West Coast

My name is Hamish if you cannot donate please share for me. Thank you.

I am in need of some help with sorting a area of our roof as I'm a tetraplegic. I gained a C6-C7 level where the vertebrae was broken compressing the spinal cord. I required a bone graft and a lot of rehabilitation.

I was in a major car accident in 2017 I'm lucky to be walking again but thanks to the Burwood spinal team I (still under their care) managed to gain my walking again but my left leg is still affected with violent spasms. I still cant run and walk differently. Im currently not cleared to be working. The injury has affected my left side with hyper sensitivity pain through my hand/arm and loss of sensation in my left leg a long with the mental side of coming to terms of this. I find it hard and unsafe to be on the roof as it is sloped.

My partner cannot work due to medical reasons. We are in desperate need to fix an area of our roof around the concrete chimney flashing area as well as some iron sheets.

Winz wont help and neither will the insurance company. I have clonus in my left hand which causes my hand to have uncontrollable violent spasms and i cannot open it or use it properly. Which makes holding things hard for me. My balance isn't great since the injury it would make the job very hard and unsafe for me. I have excruciating nerve pain in my hand/arm with weakness in my left leg. Ive contacted a roofer and have been quoted (attached) $900 to fix the area.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
