A big successful week for team Hardisty.

Phil’s explorative surgery went well and repair was able to be done so now he is in a sling for the next 6 weeks and will then be ready for rehab! Good timing for the rehab of his new hip too.

He’s had luck on the toilet side which I could imagine would be a huuuuge relief after 4.5 weeks. Hopefully this will help with the appetite, however hospital food apparently isn’t all that pleasant.

Phil also sat for the first time in a chair by himself this week (as you can see in this photo) which was a huge effort but another massive achievement- go Phil!

Emma continues to be the super woman we all know and love her for.

Once again, I’d like to take the opportunity to thank you all for banding together and helping team Hardisty for those first few weeks with this give a little page. Most of us have started descending on Phil and long let this continue- they need our support now more than ever to keep both their spirits up with this long journey of rehab ahead. Ward 77 room 7.

We continue to look forward to hearing all of Phil’s progress but for now I’ll leave that totally in Emma’s hands and close this page.

Thanks again for all the love 💕

The week has flown by and Phil has continued to push on forwards through all the pain and discomfort- why? Because he’s built of the strong stuff and because he has his loving wife and daughter to get home too. Little does he know once he’s home all of us might just start popping in and keeping him company ( eg bugging him senseless!) -but let’s not tell him that yet, might slow down his progress 😜

He still battles hardships every day and this week Wednesday he has to have surgery on his shoulder- hopefully it does not turn into open surgery next week- everything crossed again party people.

On another note the doors to hospital visits are opened! To not exhaust the big guy (because there’s a lot of us that love him and want to visit) Emma’s advised 15-20 mins max- Auckland hospital ward 77 room 7. Visiting hours 8-8.

Thanks to everyone that’s jumped on here and sent their words of love along with their support to get Phil Emma and Taylor over the initial few weeks when we couldn’t physically visit and help. This page has served exactly what was intended and I’m glad we could all show them how much they mean to us and how they’ve touched our lives and supported us in times we’ve needed a friend.

I think the time has come to close this page as planned once we could all start visiting so will look to do that at the end of the week. Emma the great has been updating Facebook on Phil’s progress and I think as Phil gets stronger and stronger he will too so we won’t all miss out on hearing his progress. Also for those of us in NZ we will get to physically visit which will help in keeping the motivation going to get back up and running!

If anyone knows of friends of Emma and Phil’s who have not seen this page then please share with them this week before I close the page.

Thanks again for all the love 💕

More of the good stuff. Phil continues to show us exactly what we knew- he is one tough nut! A tough physio session today but full of massive achievements- standing 3 times becoming more independent each time AND sitting for more than 10 minutes! These simple tasks require a lot of energy strength and motivation to achieve following an accident like Phil’s- we are so happy and proud of you big guy. You’ll be home in no time xx

Sleep glorious sleep! Phil had a much better night and therefore a good day today!

Physio has small goals set for him each day which can only spell forwards.

Phil finally had the MRI on his shoulder (also an X-ray on the left ankle and pelvis) so he will have results Monday at the latest.

A positive outcome from a complaint- Shame it has to be that way but go Emma for making your voices heard and go Phil!x

Some good with the bad... another day of less than satisfactory care for the Hardisty’s- our hearts go out to you but we’re all happy to hear you’re not letting it get you down. You’re both fighting back- Emma from her corner of making noise and you Phil for eating and pushing on with physio- we know your tough and you’re proving it to us all. Keep up the good work big guy- you’re not just your daughters hero xx

A tough day today for Phil and Emma. It’s so disappointing when the system lets you down and boy did it let Phil down today. We hope you have a better day tomorrow Phil. We know Emma won’t let the standard of care continue to fall short and we are all here rooting for you to continue your amazing progress. Two weeks ago the future didn’t look as pretty- we are all soo happy and so proud of how far you’ve come already! Don’t let the man get you down xx

A better day for physio today- those evil physios didn’t make him stand 😀 instead tortured him with exercises on the bed. Sounds good to me and probably the most preferred option for most of us- exercising lying down! But we all know you have to get up at some point and do the hard work so some standing and transfer work today for Phil. We know it will be hard Phil but we’re all behind you- give it heaps and you’ll be home in no time towering over your beautiful wife again like in this pic.

Lots of love from all of us on the outside x

First day standing since the accident! Well done Phil- we know it hurt and physios don’t listen (😜) but we’re all super proud of you and hope with all the juggling of meds and tests they will get the right balance to make the standing and physio more bearable! You are one step closer to getting home. We all know how frustrating hospitals can be so can just imagine you are chomping at the bit to get home to your family- each day gets you one day closer- keep up the good work big guy x

Well he’s complaining about the food so that’s a good sign! Obviously not up to this pictured high standard!

The physios are looking to try touch toe weight bearing this week- I’m sure there will be a few uttered swear words but very exciting to hear!

Good luck this week Phil- we’re cheering from the sidelines

    Xx

Post op days can be up and down. Unfortunately not much sleep for Phil last night and not much of an appetite. But a visit from his beautiful wife and his clever clogs daughter definitely put a smile on his dile and cheered him up. The power of true love. We know the days can be tough Phil- we’re all here thinking of you and ready to help when the times appropriate. Keep up the good fight x

Day one post op- a good day for the big guy today surrounded by his wife and beautiful daughter.

The signs of that awesome character and personality are creeping back in. We look forward to hearing more and more of his daily progress.

On another good news update- the lovely team at give a little (in particular Cheri at the help desk) have been amazing and have managed to release half these amazing donations that you have generously given tomorrow morning! That’s instead of the 20th of the following month so that’s a big win considering that is why this page was set up to help at this really hard stage.

Thanks to all of you from the bottom of my heart and Emma Phil and Taylor’s for your love and generous donations. They are overwhelmed by your generosity as you can imagine, and I know this will take a little bit of the background noise away for them as they concentrate on one foot in front of the other for Phil. Much love xx

Cheers to you Phil you made it through! We’re all so proud of your strength and determination this last week and happy your on the road to recovery. We look forward to hearing your progress day by day as you continue to get better and back running!

Unfortunately the surgeon has informed Emma the hip under Phils metalware is broken so he will need a hip replacement in 8 weeks- but that is little in the big picture of what we were looking at last week when we nearly lost him.

Phil will need lots of rehab and lots of support but as all of you have already shown to him and Emma- we’re all here ready and waiting to help.

For those of you who can - I’m sure you’ll have a drink for Phil tonight.

    Cheers!

If anyone has had a family member in healthcare you may be aware of what is required- pushy stroppy behaviour! And if you have no healthcare background you just don’t realise what should be happening and things can slip through the cracks.

We are lucky in NZ to have good healthcare however you need to ask the right questions and push push push to get the best care.

A tougher day for Phil today with getting the balance of his medication and nutrients right- but with super woman Emma fighting in his corner hopefully a much better day tomorrow. It’s very important he is at his strongest leading up to the all important surgery Thursday so let’s keep supporting Emma and Taylor with all our best wishes, hugs and finger crossing we can.

Good news continues to dribble in for the big guy. He is slowly improving daily, starting to eat minuscule amounts of yucky hospital food and holding a little bit of conversation. Unfortunately he has to lie flat for his hip/pelvis so he’s being turned every two hours to prevent a chest infection- which you can imagine is extremely painful. His vitals are still looking good for surgery Thursday, so let’s keep everything crossed for Phil that the next few days are each a little better. After surgery, some of the pain should be much improved and Emma, Taylor and Phil can start to plan for coming weeks and months to get Phil back up and running.

Thanks to everyone for their continued support.
