Raising funds through running Tokyo Marathon and in doing so bringing refugee children the opportunity to play sport

International

On 1 March this year I am running Tokyo marathon for Japan for UNHCR. It is my 4th Major marathon and with all the turmoil going on in the world I wanted to run for a cause. What better cause than one which gives refugee children the chance to enjoy sports and life. Sports have always been a part of my life and my childrens' lives so I could not imagine what it would be like to not be able to simply enjoy sports at the most basic level.

Donations for Japan for UNHCR's cause will be used for sports and education support, to nurture the will to live of refugee children and young people who have been forced to flee their homes due to conflict. The specific results of the support include improving the school attendance rate of refugees, improving the learning environment including facilities for sports, and training coaches.

Who knows what future athletes might be uncovered through a program like this one or what joy and purpose might be brought to their lives through something as simple as kicking a football or running...

Its fair to say that my training for this one has not gone to plan and a number of challenges have come up along the way especially a grumpy achilles so knowing that I am running for a cause bigger than myself will ensure that I do everything within my power to cross that finish line and earn the dollars you give for these kids.

These children have already run their marathon so please help me run mine and support my cause.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
