In memory of Andrew Truesdale, my brother, I will be running a half marathon to raise funds for the scholarship set up in his name at WFA.
Canterbury
In 2011, my brother was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. He fought hard and was put into remission in October 2012. As a family, we were over the moon and travelled to Port Douglas to celebrate. Sadly, just over 3 months later we were back to the oncology unit hearing the news none of us wanted to hear. This time round, the cancer was more vicious. It took a huge toll on AJ, stripping him of his ability to walk, control his body and eventually his ability to talk, his favourite asset. It was a long hard road, but we managed to keep AJ at home throughout, his main wish.18 months ago, Andrew lost his courageous battle to cancer. He fought with dignity and humour, always managing to find a reason to laugh and smile with those around him.
Andrew always said "You should never run unless someone is chasing you", so I thought I would prove him wrong. For his birthday weekend this year, I will be running a half marathon. I figure he'll be right there cheering me along, or rather chasing my unfit self to the finish line.
All money raised will be added to the scholarship set up in his name at Wellington Free Ambulance, benefiting paramedics by sending them internationally to research other outfits. AJ always told me to never underestimate myself so I am aiming high and hoping to reach $2000. I'm yet to decide what, but the person who donates the highest, will win a prize! So dust off those wallets and bring out you generous side!
Thank you all for your continued support for myself and my family, and I thank you in advance for your wonderful donations!
