Help hydrocephalus Sadie get a CT scan and a heart scan
Auckland
My rescue cat, Sadie, was born with congenital hydrocephalus, also known as water on the brain - a condition with incredibly poor prognosis.
She has continued to win hearts and defy all odds with her odd face shape and dopey personality. In Feb she hit her first birthday which is a huge accomplishment (I wasn't sure she'd make it past 6 weeks). Sadie's condition has remained stable and she has grown into her skull, leading us to believe that she should live a reasonably normal life.
Unfortunately she also recently hit one of her first neurological / medical scares.
Over the long weekend her entire face swelled up and she presented signs of a bone infection. Due to her unique face shape, there's just no way of knowing what is going on inside her head, or her sinuses, which makes everything incredibly risky.
Fortunately, the incredible team of specialists at ARC prescribed an antibiotic that targeted through her bone barrier to fight off her infection for now so she's improving. However, she is still presenting signs that could be linked to discomfort, brain swelling and a heart anomaly.
The only way to effectively investigate what's happening is with a CT scan. This will be able to clearly show us what's going on, and why it keeps recurring.
My cats mean the world to me and I believe she deserves the best chance at a long and healthy life, especially considering how far she's come and how strong and stable she's ended up, albiet an anomaly
The money will 100% go directly towards Sadie's medical fees. A CT scan is estimated at approximately $3500 and a heart scan is around $600
We've booked a date! 6 March 2023
Thank you all SO much for helping us achieve this massive portion of our goal! I was not expecting anywhere near what you have given us towards this and we couldn't be more grateful. I have booked an appointment for Sadie to have her CT scan and cardiograph this month so fingers crossed we get some positive news from these diagnostics!
