Tragically Marlon is in hospital as his heart is only operating at ten percent. This has caused his liver and kidneys to go into failure.
Northland
Sara and Marlon need abit of help. As you are probably all aware Marlon has been in ICU in Auckland hospital.
Initially he was in Kawakawa hospital A & E then he was transferred to Whangarei Hospital. He was then flown by emergency helicopter to Auckland as his body was shutting down and he had extremely high blood pressure which put him at risk of a stroke or a cardiac arrest.
Over the course of a couple of days and continuous ECGS, blood tests,x-rays and ultrasounds it was discovered Marlon was having trouble with his heart.
Upon the arrival in Auckland he was immediately given medication to help the heart pump blood, only a weak medication at this time as his liver and kidneys needed to be in a good place before they could handle the medication he needs to get his heart to function properly. Four days in ICU and one in HDU and his liver and kidneys are slowly on the mend(hopefully avoiding dyalasis which may still be needed as kidneys have taken such a hit).
At this time it is still unclear what the exact cause is. It is likely to be a combination of hereditary and lifestyle.
One of his ventricles that are supposed to pump his blood around his body is closed like a fist.(if you Google you will see what I mean). The ventricle is barely moving. Due to this his heart is working only at 10% meaning the blood not getting pumped around or through his body properly. As he normally healthy and active the chances are this has been happening for a while and
has not been detected. As a result his liver and kidneys also went into failure.
Now out of immediate danger he is under the care of the heart specialists. They will do more tests and examinations to determine the cause.
Tragically Marlons dad, Willie, passed away at 52 from heart disease..Marlon may need a heart transplant to be able to return to his normal active life style. Until then he is going to be very limited with what he can do, running out of breath and tiring easily. Even taking a shower will exhaust him. This alone is already driving him crazy as he is always busy working, repairing cars or active with his teenage sons. We all know how much he loves to have a beer and party.
It’s unknown how long he will actually be in Auckland hospital for the stress of trying
to stay down here to help and support him financially and mentally is exhausting as well as worry about not having a home to go back to at all.
He is going to have to make drastic lifestyle
Changes from nutrition to exercise. Even stairs are going to be a hurdle. continuous trips to cardiologist appointments are also going to add strain.
He is feeling better and bored as wants to go home he reckons but is still so sick and very grateful to Auckland Hospital for saving his life. His heart could still just stop working he's going crazy being stuck in bed..already trying to rewire the hospital equipment lol. Very demanding on Sara too. She is literally exhausted but has no choice but to be strong for Marlon and her boys.
All funds raised on this page are being deposited into Michele, (Sara’s mother), bank account. Please give what you can
Sara and Marlon are life long friends of mine. Marlon and I attended primary school together.
The main goal is to assist with costs related to living as Sara is not working at present while she is at the hospital with Marlon and obviously Marlon is out of work at the moment as well.
