Saturn has been hit by a car and needs surgery with a long road to recovery.
Wellington
On Wednesday 21st April, Saturn didn't come home. His owner Alex found him across the road down a bank in the bush, cold and in the dark and unable to move. He had been hit by a car at some point in the afternoon/early evening and suffered very intense injuries including broken pelvis and dislocated hip.
He was rushed to the after hours vet who kept him overnight before he went to his regular vet in the morning. He has been back and forth to multiple vets since then, and been put on all kinds of medication while we awaited his surgery on Wednesday 28th April.
In that time he has been kept safe and warm at home but he also managed to get a bladder infection where he was sleeping in his litter tray a lot because he didn't want to move (so back to the vet for antibiotics) plus given laxatives as he couldn't strain enough due to his broken pelvis.
He has finally had his surgery where he has had a plate and screws put into his shattered bones. Topped off with an enema to help move things along.
He is going back to the vet on the 29th for an ultrasound as it's possible his muscle has torn away from the bone and he will likely need a second surgery.
The vet costs are up to $2000 and the surgery quoted at $3,500. If the second surgery goes ahead, that will be another 1.5-2 thousand dollars. Alex has never questioned any of it and has been taking time off work and driving him all over to get him the help he needs. She doesn't ask for any help and is having to get finance to cover it all and as we all know, it is a struggle but it's what we do for our pets. Unfortunately, Saturn had cat flu as a kitten so was told he wouldn't get Pet Insurance by the vets at the time.
Saturn is only 6 years old and hopefully has a long life ahead of him.
Please help anyway you can - it means a lot to us to have our little Space Cadet safe and comfortable back at home where he is looking at 3 months in a crate to recover.
Saturns Owner Alex is my best friend who I have lived with for 4 years.

3 DAYS TO GO!!! 16 May 2021
Hey everyone. Thank you so much for your support. Saturn is looking and feeling much better. He has a long road ahead, is mostly crate bound except for a few snuggles in our beds on those cold nights. With all going well, Saturn will heal from this surgery and not need another one. He has just had his stitches removed and his bowels are finally working normally again. 3 days to go to meet our goal!! We have nearly hit 4K for donations which we are beyond grateful for. Total bills are now over $6000. Thank you all xx
Thanks Nitha! :) x
