Help us save a part of botanic and Whanganui history.
Bastia Hill, Whanganui
115 Mount View Road (https://www.bayleys.co.nz/3001814) has come up for sale on Whanganui's Bastia Hill with a rich botanic history, rare plants and home to many native birds. We believe this is a community asset and should be maintained and regenerated on behalf of the Whanganui community. Our long term vision is for this land’s rich history to continue by providing a sustainable space and destination for connection with people, community and learning.
The Bason Botanic Garden Trust, a registered charity and nearby garden asset in Whanganui, is helping us to raise these initial funds on our behalf in order to purchase the land and set up a trust to advance this project.
The Trust, formed in 1982, consists of an elected Board and Friends of the Bason Botanic Gardens. The Trust Board` develops the strategic plan for the Gardens and with the Friends of the Bason, promotes and support its development in many ways.
Funds will be used to help cover legal fees associated with purchasing the property
Update 24/5/22 We were successful in negotiating a conditional offer to buy the property
We have until 25/6/22 to go unconditional and confirm we are able to raise the $1.5 million NZD we need to establish the trust and purchase the land
If we do not raise enough to purchase the property, funds will be used to preserve and protect the garden and for the gardeners residence project at the Bason Botanic Gardens
Blooms on Bastia art exhibition opening on Friday 22 July in Whanganui 19 July 2022
We are still waiting for an update of the conditional offer by another party on this property. However we are excited that one of our group Sandra Morris has her art exhibition opening at 5:30pm at the Fine Arts Whanganui gallery, 77 Taupo Quay.
Sandra, alongside Carol Teutscher, will be showing artwork inspired by 25 visits to the garden across the seasons. Please joins us if you can, the exhibition runs until 10 August 2022 and any proceeds from the sale will go towards protecting the heritage of this garden and its stories.
