We are still waiting for an update of the conditional offer by another party on this property. However we are excited that one of our group Sandra Morris has her art exhibition opening at 5:30pm at the Fine Arts Whanganui gallery, 77 Taupo Quay.

Sandra, alongside Carol Teutscher, will be showing artwork inspired by 25 visits to the garden across the seasons. Please joins us if you can, the exhibition runs until 10 August 2022 and any proceeds from the sale will go towards protecting the heritage of this garden and its stories.

  • An update on our offer and closing our givealittle

      5 July 2022

We learned late on Friday that our request for a 6 month extension of time to our contract to purchase 115 Mount View Rd was not accepted. We asked for this to give us time to take up other national media offers and continue to raise the funds needed to make this a reality based on the wonderful support we had to date.

We understand from the real estate agents that another party now holds a conditional contract to purchase. We are taking a wait and see approach until we hear this private offer has gone unconditional to decide what happens next.

In the meantime, we have closed our current Givealittle fundraising campaign. As stated, If we are unable to purchase the property any funds would be used to preserve and protect the garden and for the gardeners residence project at the Bason Botanic Gardens. We will honour this pledge for any excess donations after taking into account any expenses of pursuing this opportunity and our original offer. We will continue to post updates on how any money has or will be spent to all people who so generously supported us through our website and Facebook or through our friends at the Bason Botanic Gardens. We hope for the opportunity to work with any future purchaser to preserve some of the botanic history at 115 Mount View Road.

We hope you will continue to back this project in whatever future form it may take as we continue to back the blooms for Whanganui.

We are so humbled by the support we are receiving for this project. As the season changes to winter here in Whanganui we share a recent photo of the red of the Leucadendron that continues to brighten the gardens at 115 Mt View Road.

We have raised the target of this page to $25,000 as we continue to use various different resources, carry out property due diligence for purchase and promote saving this land across New Zealand and the world. Funds will continue to only be used for these types of expenses and disbursements and we will continue to provide updates via our website and Facebook on what is happening. We are still looking for non traditional finance options or angel/philanthropic loans to give us time to do this right so please get in touch at 115mtview@onbastia.co.nz if you know of someone who may be able to help!

Let's keep going, back the blooms and save this Whanganui gem!

  • Thank you so far for supporting our vision for the blooms on Bastia!

      27 May 2022

We are really humbled so far at people's support our this project for our community and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts, sending a virtual leucadendron to you all.

We wanted to be clear that while our end goal is 1.5 NZD million, we are aware that is likely we will need to seek non traditional finance or philantropic loans to fulfil this amount. This givealittle helps us towards that goal of setting up costs of buying this property (legal fees, due diligence on the property, trust setup, website hosting, deposit to go unconditional etc). If we are unsuccessful at going unconditional on this property, any funds will be used to ensure that we can preserve and protect the plants in this garden and if anything remaining, to the gardeners residence project at the Bason Botanic Gardens (https://basonbotanicgardens.com) that also promotes connection with gardening and its heritage here in Whanganui.

Please keep sharing! We can do this!

We've been desperate to share this news and finally we can! We were successful in negotiating a conditional offer to buy this property. We have until 24 June 2022 to go unconditional and confirm we are able to raise the $1.5 million NZD we need to establish the trust and purchase the land. Please help us preserve this amazing piece of land and history on behalf of our wider community and back the blooms on Bastia!

Don't forget you can like and share us on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/bloomsonbastia) or any social media of your choice, or old school word by mouth! Even the smallest action can have the biggest effects! We are also open to any non traditional financing options or philanthropic loans, please get in touch if you want to discuss this further or make a large donation.

Thank you for your support and belief so far and let's do this!

    - Jo Buckingham
