Save Chiko’s Leg

Kia ora Whanganui,

My brother Russell and his little Jack Russell, Chiko, were attacked near Armstrong Place last week. A pitbull latched onto Chiko and Russell was badly injured trying to save him. Kind locals stepped in and got them both to safety, and we’re so grateful.

Russell needed surgery — a skin graft on his arm where a chunk was bitten out, and treatment for his badly bitten thumb. He’s now home but needs district nurse care. As a beneficiary, he’s struggling with the sudden costs and recovery.

Chiko’s tummy was torn and his back leg is in plaster. He’s home now but needs another operation to insert screws to save the leg. The vet requires $900 upfront and another $900 after surgery, which Russell simply can’t afford.
