  • Mollys final update on this page

      22 September 2025

Although my Givealittle page has now closed, Molly’s journey still continues 💛

Today she had her first western-style acupuncture session. She was so relaxed and really enjoyed it, which was such a relief. We’re hoping this may help her eventually urinate on her own, giving her a much better quality of life than being expressed four times a day. The vet said it can sometimes help—but it’s not guaranteed.

On Friday, Molly will see a neurologist for a reassessment.

Thank you so much for your support—it has helped cover her care and your encouragement has kept our hopes alive. Molly now has her own Facebook page where I’ll post regular updates if you’d like to follow her progress. 🐾

    Progress Update

Today Molly drank from her water fountain for the first time since her accident. She has also now urinated independently in her litter tray. These are really encouraging signs, showing that she is beginning to re-engage with normal routines and starting to regain some control. Her progress may be slow, but each step forward is meaningful and worth celebrating. We are visiting the vet again tomorrow to review her progress and medication. Next week she will see the veterinary acupuncturist, and the following week she has an appointment with the neurologist. Each of these steps will help guide her recovery and give us more insight into her healing process.

  • Feeling better

      7 September 2025

Molly is having a much better day today. She’s eaten three pouches of food and her bladder has been much easier to express. The medication to relax her injured nerves is helping her a lot, so we’ll be continuing with that for now. Thank you so much for your kind support.

  • Still having troubles

      6 September 2025
    Main image

Molly is still having a bit of trouble eating. The vets have given her a recovery diet (Royal Canin Recovery), but she’s always eaten Hills Science Diet and isn’t used to the new flavor or texture, which may be part of the reason she’s reluctant.

Another factor could be her tail/nerve injury — sometimes nerves can “refire” weeks after an injury, causing discomfort that can make cats less interested in food.

We’re doing everything we can to help her eat, including:

    • Mixing a little of her usual food with the recovery diet

    • Warming her food to enhance aroma

    • Offering small, frequent meals and hand-feeding when she’s willing

She’s still receiving pain relief, fluids, anti-nausea medication, and appetite support from her vets. While she’s not eating as much as we’d like, she’s resting comfortably and purring, which is reassuring.

Thank you all so much for your ongoing support — it truly makes a difference for Molly

  • A rough week but she’s so strong

      5 September 2025

It’s been such a rough week with three vet visits due to tummy trouble. After fluids she’s finally starting to come right, which is such a relief.

Her new medication to help with gut mobility is arriving on Wednesday, and once she’s fully settled we’ll be able to introduce her new food. Considering everything she’s been through, she’s doing amazingly well — she really is a little fighter.

The journey continues, and we are so grateful to all of you. Your support has made these vet visits possible — and as you know, they are exorbitantly expensive. Thank you for helping us keep Molly going. 💖

  • Update for Molly supporters

      1 September 2025
    Main image

Molly continues to be very active and playful, but her toileting issues remain a challenge. We recently returned to the specialist, and based on their advice she has started a new diet, a compounded gut motility medication, and a round of veterinary acupuncture. We are following the specialist’s recommendations closely and remain hopeful that these treatments will help her overcome these ongoing issues.

Thank you so much for your support — it means the world to both of us.

  • Better morning

      13 July 2025

Molly had a much better morning today after a really tough day yesterday. She’s been struggling with low anal tone and the ability to go to the toilet on her own. After adjusting her routine and medication, we finally saw some progress — and today she’s more comfortable and settled.

Next week, we’ll be heading back to the vet and also making an appointment with a new specialist here in Auckland to see if we can develop a more tailored plan for her care going forward.

Thank you all so much for your ongoing support — it means the world to Molly and to us.

Thank you again for your support.

Sometimes the road to recovery isn’t straightforward and can come with risks and complications. We’re now moving in a new direction with Molly’s care and may be heading back to see the neurologist specialist soon for a new plan. She continues on her journey with strength and patience—and we’re doing all we can to support her every step of the way. Here she is today- comfortable after a short vet visit for bladder and bowel expression which was remedied quickly.

  • This is a journey

Thank you so much for your kind and generous support for Molly — we wanted to share an update on how she’s doing.

Molly had her latest vet visit this week and received her first session of laser therapy to help regenerate the nerves damaged by her tail-pull injury. She’s been very sleepy since, and while it’s too soon to tell if the treatment will help, we’re giving her the quiet time and space she needs to rest and recover.

This week we also received more insight from her vet specialist: Molly’s healing won’t be quick. She’s still dealing with ongoing pain, bladder retention, and bowel issues, and her recovery may take up to six months or more. It’s a long road ahead.

Many of you contributed with the idea that she might need an $8,000 cystostomy surgery. While we did purchase a custom tube from overseas in preparation, we’ve now decided — with veterinary advice — that we can hold off on surgery for now. It’s not financially viable, and more importantly, we’re seeing signs that she may be able to continue healing without such an invasive step.

Thanks to your donations, we’ve been able to put towards ongoing multiple weekly vet visits, very expensive specialist visits, medications, some laser therapy, and the daily supplies Molly needs to stay clean, comfortable, and well cared for at home. Your kindness has made this possible.

We’re incredibly grateful for your ongoing support as we give Molly every chance at healing — gently and in her own time. 💕🐾

We are looking forward to the vet specialist appointment tomorrow!!! We’ve had some full bladder expressions (although some painful) and Molly has been comfortable and leaking less. We are giving more than 100 percent to get her right.

Molly’s bladder was expressed easily today. She still requires 4x bladder expressions daily. We got a nugget INSIDE the litter tray this morning too. A hopeful day.

  • Hope

      7 July 2025

For the first time in weeks, we’re seeing signs that Molly might be turning a corner.

Each morning used to bring soaked towels and heartbreak, but now — a considerably smaller wet patch. She’s no longer constantly dripping urine. It’s still difficult to express her bladder, and sometimes she hisses from discomfort, but these changes suggest something truly hopeful: her nerves may be slowly coming back to life.

We’re not there yet — but this feels like a quiet, powerful step in the right direction.

A veterinary neurologist has recommended a specialist acupuncturist in Auckland who’s had success with cats like Molly — cats with tail-pull injuries and nerve damage that seemed irreversible… until they weren’t. With your help, we’d love to pursue this next stage of her care and give her every chance possible.

The struggle continues. Molly has been at the vet three times this week. She has had bowel issues and a painful bladder with constant expressions and leakage. We are hoping that she will get better soon. Here she is having some of her favourite biscuits.

Molly had a good day — she’s eating, drinking, and happily watching birds from the window. She’s making attempts to toilet on her own. She continues her anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory, and bladder relaxant medications, with 4 bladder expressions daily. I spoke with a vet acupuncturist today which may help. I haven’t seen the specialist yet as surgery is very expensive. I’ll try to post videos soon — I’m still learning how to use this platform
