Desperately trying to save Molly, medical expenses very high.
Auckland
My beautiful cat Molly (2 years old) was hit by a car. She suffered a severe tail-pull injury - severed at the base of the tail. This has left her unable to urinate and struggling to regain nerve function in her lower body. In this short time she has had a tail amputation as the traction was pulling on the injury. Bladder expressions 2-3 daily until it was so painful that she had to be sedated each time. She has also endured multiple urinary catheters. We are now facing a surgical procedure called a cystostomy tube placement, which will help her safely pass urine while her nerves heal. Vet care and specialist care is expensive. Sadly I found out too late that my insurance policy had changed and it only covered a very small fraction of her treatment costs. I have already spent over 9000 dollars of my own money on surgery, sedations, medications and emergency care. Despite everything, her vet believes she has a 90 percent chance with time and the right care. I want to give her that chance.
Money will be spent on Molly's ongoing veterinary care, specialist care and surgery which allows her bladder to heal.
Mollys final update on this page 22 September 2025
Although my Givealittle page has now closed, Molly’s journey still continues 💛
Today she had her first western-style acupuncture session. She was so relaxed and really enjoyed it, which was such a relief. We’re hoping this may help her eventually urinate on her own, giving her a much better quality of life than being expressed four times a day. The vet said it can sometimes help—but it’s not guaranteed.
On Friday, Molly will see a neurologist for a reassessment.
Thank you so much for your support—it has helped cover her care and your encouragement has kept our hopes alive. Molly now has her own Facebook page where I’ll post regular updates if you’d like to follow her progress. 🐾
Thank you so much for your support, Chris. Molly has had a tough time with her bowel movements, but she’ll have another day at the vet tomorrow for fluids and monitoring. The good news is she passed urine independently for the first time since her accident. Your help makes all of this possible, and we’re hopeful for her recovery.
Thank you so much for your support — it truly means the world to us. Molly has taken a turn for the worse this week. She stopped eating and began vomiting, which was very worrying. Both her local vets and the emergency clinic have been involved, but it’s still unclear what caused it. She has been on fluids for the past two days, which has helped her stay stable. The good news is that Molly has started to eat again, which feels like a real breakthrough. We’re moving forward with her treatments and are encouraged by her resilience. She really is such a little fighter
Thank you Susanne for your generous donation. Your kindness and support mean more than words can say. It’s been a tough journey, but knowing that people care about Molly gives us strength. She’s seeing a specialist on Thursday for further assessment and treatment, and we’re holding on to hope. We’ll keep you updated on her progress.
Thank you so much, Chris! Your generous gift will be used carefully to support Molly’s ongoing care and recovery.
Thank you Selina, We’re so grateful for your support. Molly is recovering from a traumatic tail injury that left her without a tail and struggling with bladder control. Your donation helps us cover future vet and specialist vet visits, medications, and anything she needs to live a comfortable, happy life.
