Your generosity will save our unique Street Piano, and help bring music to the street, create well-being, lighten hearts and spirits!
Richmond, Tasman
We are reaching out to you in order to save our Richmond Community Street Piano.
The Piano has been out on the streets now for 14 years, and brings huge enjoyment to the listening public, and the musicians themselves.
Many international students use the piano, as so many homes nowadays don't have pianos.
The piano has wowed folk in Richmond many times, with lunchtime jazz and blues gigs, singers such as the Songbirds, experienced classical pianists, right down to the little children who love to tinkle. Who knows what this will spark in them?!
Funds are needed to replace 8 broken strings and hammers, plus other repairs caused by excessive, violent banging of the keys. Very sad, as our community helped raise the money needed to have the Piano restrung only 2 years ago.
We are also looking to build a permanent, secure shelter in Sundial Square to house and protect the instrument from the elements. It can then be enjoyed by other organizations for musical gigs, street markets and fairs, and community fundraising etc.
Owner of the piano that I donated to the Richmond Community in 2014.
The money is needed for repairs to strings, hammers, pedal rod connector, new celeste felt, tuning and overhaul. These are the priority.
Our plan is to erect a permanent, secure shelter in Sundial Square if we can raise enough funds.
Piano Progress Update 27 February 2024
Hello piano supporters.
Just an update on progress:
We've almost reached the $1000 target needed for the repair of our lovely piano - just $400 to go!
Huge thanks to everyone who has so generously donated - such a great achievement.
The broken strings have been sent away, and it will take Mike a full day once they come back to complete the job, so he's hoping the middle of March will see you making music again.
The issue of a home has still not been resolved, so it may have to go outside TDC until we get something closer for you.
A lot of folk have suggested Connings at Appleby. I have not approached them as yet, but just wondering how you feel about it not being in town? Tell me your thoughts on the Facebook page.
Keep up the good work - please share the Givealittle page on your social media sites to give our fundraising a boost. THANK YOU!!
