A bowling club with heart, that brings together a community of retirees, widows, and widowers for connection and fun!
Waipawa, Hawke's Bay
Waipawa Bowling Club (WBC) lost their only bowling green in the Cyclone Gabrielle flooding that devastated Hawke's Bay in early 2023. The WBC is the lifeblood for emotional connection, physical activity, and community togetherness for a large number of retirees, widows, and widowers in Central Hawkey's Bay. Without it, many of the members will be denied their primary source of social interaction.
The amazing members of this club, many of whom are in their 70s and 80s, have been toiling away tirelessly to tear up the ruined green, and clear away the silt and debris from the floods. And they're fundraising themselves, but are sensitive to the fact many other Hawke's Bay people and businesses are also in need.
They were insured, but due to insane cost increases in the 7 months since they laid their green (after fundraising for over 5 years to afford it!), they find themselves $40,000 short of what they need to get the job done.
Any amount will help. Their families, local businesses, and emergency funds have provided them with about $7k so far, but there is still a long way to go. If you can help get these golden oldies back up and bowling, you'd be a rockstar in everyone's eyes!
My mother is the president of the Waipawa Bowling Club.
