Save the Ruakaka Recreation Centre!

  • We have done it

      2 July 2021

Thank you for your help! ❤️

We are happy to announce that we have now raised all of the money we need for the actual fire safety upgrade that the Ruakaka Recreation Center will have to do.

A big thank you to our funders who helped us to achieve our goal:

Whangarei District Council community funding, Pub Charity, Four Winds, Transpower, Whangarei District Council Parks and Recreation, Fresh Choice, Marsden Bay Garden Club, Bream Bay Anglican Church, and our community.

Also a big thank you to Lottery Grants for the grant to upgrade emergency lighting and signage.

Once again, thank you so very much for your kind support. Kind regards, Christine, Manager, Ruakaka Recreation Centre

  • Update to our fire safety upgrade

      28 May 2021

On behalf of our committee, I would like to thank everyone who donated to our fire safety upgrade at the Ruakaka Recreation Centre. We have come a long way. With our own fundraising efforts, plus the give a little webpage and cash donations we were able to raise $6,000. In addition, we have also applied for grants from various funders.

We're excited to announce that we've raised $ 88,000 to date. That said, we still have a shortfall of $ 12,000. Our give a little website will be closed soon so the time to make a donation is running out. We urgently need more people to donate to this good cause to reach the $ 100,000 we need for the fire safety upgrade. We need your help so that the Ruakaka Recreation Center can continue to support its popular community.

  • We are slowly getting closer to our goal

      29 October 2020

Thank you to all of our donors for your kind donation. We are slowly approaching our goal. In addition to our fundraising campaign with the give a little website, we also raised funds by applying for funding. So far we've raised $ 30,000. This includes the $ 4,271 grant for the two 60-minute fire doors from Pub Charity and the $ 10,000 grant from the WDC Community Fund. We have been invited by Transpower to apply for funding and we will also apply to the Lottery Grants. In the meantime, please share our give a little fundraiser with your friends, family, and others. We still need to raise more funds for the fees we have to pay because we cannot apply for grants to cover the cost of those fees.

  • What we achieved so far

      23 September 2020

Since we started our little page, the community's interest has been very positive. First of all, many thanks to everyone who donated for our fire protection upgrade. We would like to thank Sue Hodge of Parks and Recreation for her financial help with fire improvement fees. Her department already paid $ 11,400 for the fire engineer and architect fees. Currently, we are still raising funds just to pay the fees like the building consent fee, the fire engineer's calculations and design for the existing and new landing, for the soil testing, the GEO technical report and the WDC inspections during the upgrade. We have already applied for funding to Pub Charity and hope to receive a grant to cover the cost of the two new 60-minute fire doors that the Rec Center needs to install. In late August, we also applied to the community funding from the WDC to hopefully receive $ 10,000 to upgrade the Type 2 fire alarm system. The outcome should be announced by mid-October. There is still a long way to go, but with your help, we are very confident that we will achieve our goal.

A big thank you to all of you for your wonderful support. Of course, everyone is concerned about what will happen to our Recreation Center. We promise that we will work hard to prevent the centre from being closed. It's nice to see how well the community is using the Rec Centre and we don't want to lose it. Please be so kind and share this page with your family and friends. Thank you again for your generous support.
