Save two Kaimanawa Horses

  • They've arrived!

      29 April 2016

Great news!! The two beautiful Kaimanawas have arrived at Annie's, their temporary handler. Kirsten is going to visit them this weekend and will get photos for everyone. We are only just over halfway to goal, though, so it would be incredibly wonderful to raise the rest of the funds as soon as possible to cover the costs so Kirsten can focus on the Kaimanawa's, rather than budget issues. Thank you for your help thus far... if you can give just a few dollars more, and share widely, it would be terrifically appreciated.

  • Wow! So close!!

      6 April 2016

We're almost to goal - how exciting! And we've heard the fantastic news that a last minute deluge of applications were received so it looks like no horses will lose their lives this muster - and they'll be ahead for next year. It's truly wonderful news :-)

We're currently waiting to have the Kaimanawa Heritage Horses team assess our application, and have lined up a handler (Ann) who is both highly experienced and close to Kirsten in terms of location. So it means Kirsten will be able to spend time with the horses as they transition to their new home (and take photos for us...yay).

Thank you to all who have donated, and who have shared the page. You're true stars, and are shining beacons of humanity by reaching out to save the lives of two beautiful animals.

  • Halfway to goal - A big THANKS!

Well, we're halfway to our goal of saving two of these magnificent animals. It's an incredible effort, and in such a short amount of time - my faith in humanity is being restored with each donation, so thank you!

More is needed to ensure their lives are saved so please continue to donate and share. Any excess will be put towards their healthcare needs (which are sometimes quite large in wild horses) to bring them back to full health.

Thanks again - your support really is appreciated.

What date do you need all your money by ?

Hi Sharon, Kirsten has submitted the application for two horses (a mare and a colt) and there's a likely possibility the mare will be pregnant (caution / warning by KHH to be aware of). She has arranged for an approved handler so it all looks good...yay! We've only raised enough for one horse though, so fingers and toes are crossed we manage to get to goal by the 15th of April so we don't have to panic :-p The muster takes place at the end of April and the funds need to be paid to KHH and the handler when the horses have been delivered. Givealittle transfers funds into the accounts around the 20th / 25th of the month so we really need to have the funds available (ideally) by the 20th so it's a smooth transaction process without added stress on anyone. I'm so happy to be a part of this cause (as are my nieces and nephews who adore horses) - I just hope I get to name one. Maybe we should open it up to donors for suggested names that suit their beautiful NZ heritage?

      Hi Sharlene,

I am an avid animal lover and foster for the SPCA, I am watching closely the donations, if the goal is not reached in time, I will donate whatever is needed to reach your goal, to save these beautiful Horses.

I just wish I was in a position to do more, but for now all I can do is donate, I have already donated $100.
