Hi guys. I fiiinally have an update for you all 🙏 After being booked in three times over the last 2 weeks for her xrays, and the vet not having time to actually get them done (they've been so busy with my other two 😮‍💨) we managed to finally get the xrays done this afternoon! She had her shoulders, elbows and wrists all xrayed!

The scans show no breaks (phew) but they do show action (more movement than normal) in both of her wrists (worse on the left). They also show that she was seriously malnourished as a pup and her bone density is not at its finest 😢 This means no strenuous activity for her otherwise it could result in a break 💔 I'm sad that humans failed her this way. The good news is that she doesn't need surgery. The bad news is that there is no quick fix or cure. She will now be on pain management and bone & joint supplements for life to help support her through life. There is possibly ligament damage so ideally I'd like to do an ultrasound to see what's going on soft tissue wise but that all depends on givealittle donations. Thank you all for your donations and kind words. Sorry for the delay in updates but we are finally getting the answers we needed 💕 Thanks for following Akiras journey 🥰

Stoked to say this gorgeous girl had gained 1.5kgs in a week since her last vet visit. She has a wee way to go but making great progress and eating well. Her skin has cleared up and she hasn't been caught itching or licking at all for a few days. Her stained fur is now starting to fade and she is in a really good routine with dinner and bedtimes. She is settling in so well 🥰 We still need your help get her the vet attention she needs. Last night she jumped up our retaining wall and must have landed funny and triggered her front left leg again. She was wincing and wouldn't weight bare on it. We need to get this girl xrays as soon as we can to see what's going on for her and if it's something we can fix, or something we just have to manage with less activity and pain management.

  • Kiera becomes Akira

Well, it's been one whole week since I picked baby girl up and first off I want to say a HUGE thank you to those who have donated so far! On Monday I managed to get her seen by a vet. She is clearly underweight, has multiple skin issues which are being treated and still needs xrays and bloods to get a better understanding of what's going on for her internally. She is settling in well and eating a good 3 cups of biscuits with toppers a day so I'm sure we will start slowly seeing some weight gain soon. Her and my 15mo Husky "Luca" get along brilliantly for the most part. No doubt there will be a few scuffles while they determine the Alpha of the pack. She is yet to make friends with my 13.5yo samoyed "Kaira" but I'm hoping that when she comes off heat her hormones will settle and she'll be a bit more accepting of her. Her name was changed slightly as Kiera was a tad close to Kaira but Akira is similar enough for her to still respond. We are falling in love with her already. Stay tuned for further updates and again, thank you for your support.
