My kitten Evie is in desperate need of life saving surgery.
Auckland
My kitten Evie (who is 5 months old now) was involved in a serious accident on Sunday the 8th of May this year. My daughter heard her crying from outside the lounge window and we rushed out to see her, she wasn't able to move and was cold and shaking. I rushed her to a vet and he gave us the news that if she wasn't able to go to the toilet in the next 24 hours by herself then she would have to be put down. Both Evie's back legs were paralyzed and she couldn't move her tail. The vet gave her a heavy dose of a very strong pain killer that usually wouldn't be used on kittens and he basically gave her up for dead and seemed to not care about her welfare.
The first vet that we took her to was incompetent so we took her to another local vet the next morning. Luckily the prognosis was a lot better and the vet said that she could live. Evie had an x-ray and it showed that she had 4 fractures, including the one where the ball at the end of the leg bone broke off from her hip socket and had come out and a fracture at the base of her tail bone stopping her from using her tail. Thankfully after 4 weeks her tail is mobile and doesn't need to be amputated.
Evie needs to be in a crate for 6 weeks in total, she is putting some weight on her back legs when she walks and she is able to go to the toilet by herself. She is a fighter with an amazing spirit and she is so lovable and affectionate.
Evie had the surgery on Tuesday to fix her broken femur and she also was desexed.
I don't have the money to pay for the surgery that saved her life and I have already struggled to pay for the initial costs for both vets. My mother has been very helpful but I need to pay her back. I only got a job on Monday and since I have been out of work for a long time, I don't have any savings to pay for the surgery.
Evie loves to play with her mother; they chase each other from one side of the house to another! She loves being outside chasing leaves and catching crickets and bringing them inside to play with. She also loves standing on my shoulders and rubbing her face against mine, sleeping on my back and swishing her tail from side to side like she owns the place. Evie is truly a joy to have around.
I rescued Evie and her mother, Luna, from being strays. They bring so much light and love to my life and my daughter's life. It would be truly devastating if we had to say goodbye to either one of them. Luna and Evie aren't just pets, they are family. Please help in whatever way you can to rescue my beautiful little kitten. Thank you.
I am involved because I am Evie's foster mummy so I am advocating on behalf of her so she can have a full and healthy life, free of pain.
