The future of Campbell Kindergarten and Karori Kids is under threat and we need to raise funds to cover the legal costs of our fight to stay
Wellington
Karori Kids and Campbell Kindergarten have been providing early childhood education for the Karori community for over 35 years.
Until 2015 they were on Crown land and, in accordance with their occupancy arrangements, invested in, maintained and insured the properties at 29 and 25 Campbell Street. In April 2015 the properties were transferred to Victoria University Wellington along with the Karori Campus. Neither Campbell Kindergarten or Karori Kids were advised of this.
In 2016 the university decided they no longer require the land and will dispose of the campus properties - meaning they will profit from investments the local community have made and the kindergarten and Karori Kids may close.
The kindergarten and Karori Kids have had to instruct lawyers, and the more we look at the situation, the more shocking the management of the land transfer process and the treatment of Karori Kids and Campbell Kindergarten becomes. Whilst we cannot outline the full details here, the failings are sufficient for us to consider instigating a judicial review of the land transfer if the Ministry of Education does not resolve the situation they have placed us in.
We want the Ministry to purchase the two properties and reinstate the agreements that we have had with the Crown for the last 35+ years.
Karori Kids and Campbell Kindergarten have been providing early childhood education for the Karori community for over 35 years.
Karori Kids and Campbell Kindergarten have needed to instruct lawyers to fight the planned sale of 25 and 29 Campbell Street - properties we have invested and maintained ourselves over almost 4 decades. As not-for-profit early education providers we don't have sufficient funds to afford the legal costs we are incurring to resolve the situation we have been placed in. We are seeking community support to help us save Campbell Kindergarten and Karori Kids for future generations.
