Julie has contracted the rare cancer Ewings Sarcoma; there is no treatment available to her in Fiji, to the extent that appropriate painkillers are also not available. Julie was diagnosed in October 2015, it is imperative she has treatment asap if she has any chance of survival for her family. The most cost effective option is for Julie to travel and stay in India; the treatment course is 12 months.
Please see following a letter of request to Fiji Ministry of Health from Julie for financial assistance for treatment, this letter outlines Julie's current circumstances. This process of application can take 6 - 8 weeks; time that Julie and her family do not have.

Dear Sir/Madam
RE: REQUEST FOR MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
This is to inform you that I, Junita Raj, a patient of Lautoka hospital am suffering from Ewing’s Sarcoma of pelvis which has been proved by biopsy and its report. According to the orthopedic surgeon, treatment by chemotherapy and radiotherapy both of which are not available in Fiji but be best treated abroad.
I am married, currently unemployed and supported by my husband Mohammed Intiaz, who is a taxi driver. We have a one and half year old daughter and do not own a house, currently renting. My husband’s weekly income is about $150 per week.
My parents are from Vuda, dad 60years old, retired driver, mother 50years old, unemployed. I have three sisters- two married and one student.
My husband has three brothers who are casual workers and live separately. His father is 60 years old, unemployed, mother is 55 years old, sickly who needs financial support from my husband.
Taking into account our family history and financial status we would like to request for financial assistance to offset the treatment cost.
Attached please find the medical report and the biopsy report of my sickness.
Your kind consideration and response to my requests will be highly appreciated.
Yours faithfully,
Junita raj
MEDICAL REPORT
Mrs. Junita Raj NHN: 3200171128 28th December, 2015
Re: medical report
Mrs. Raj is a 21 year old female who was referred to the Lautoka hospital orthopedic department with non specific left hip and thigh pain. She described night and rest pain of insidious onset which has been present for over a year. She is otherwise fit and healthy with no other co-morbidities.
On examination she is slim and not in any distress. She is fully mobile with a vague left iliac fossa mass which seems to arise from her pelvis. No lymph nodes were palpable and she has normal movement and sensation down her left lower limb.
Hematology showed a normal white cell count with elevated ESR. Plain x-rays of her pelvis (February 2015) showed a soft tissue lesion with scalloping of majority of her left ilium. A repeat x-ray (October 2015) of her pelvis show a locally aggressive lesion with bone destruction involving her left ilium. A chest xray appeared to be normal with no radiological signs of metastatic disease. A CT scan showed a large soft tissue sarcoma with direct bone invasion of majority of her left iliac bone and left acetebulum.
An incisional biopsy was done and the histological result has been reported as Mrs. Junita Raj having a Ewing’s Sarcoma.
A recent CT scan of her chest and abdomen (23/12/2015) did not show any metastasis of her sarcoma.
Mrs. Raj and her husband have been informed of the biopsy result and that treatment of a Ewing’s sarcoma is best treated abroad from Fiji as chemotherapy and radiotherapy are not readily available for her.
This is also an expensive form of treatment and they are seeking any financial help to assist them.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Vaigalo Eddie McCaig MBBS MMED Surgery Orthopedic Surgeon Lautoka Hospital
My involvement with Julie and her family has been for many years. Julie began work from High School as a clerk in our business in Fiji. She very quickly proved her capabilities and became my Personal Assistant during my role as Project Manager for a renewable energy power development project in Vuda, Fiji. She is now with Jacaran Limited as my Personal Assistant for Fiji, (currently unable to work). I have watched this beautiful young woman grow and blossom and I am so proud of her. Just the other day she said to me, "Madam I have had a great life and fulfilled any young girls dreams, to work, get married, and be a mum, I am ok to go now, don't worry about me".
I cannot let her go without doing the absolute best I can, and I am asking for your help.
I would like to thank FIJI AIRWAYS so very much for their generous support. You are absolutely amazing.
Our Beautiful Brave Girl Off to Delhi 8 March 2016
Wow, we achieved enough through fundraising to fly Julie and her husband to Delhi. A big Thank you to "Fiji Times", Hank and Staff for your very generous donation.
Julie & Mohammed have enough financial support for two months treatment.
Our fundraising will continue in earnest as we have news today, that unfortunately Julie is in the last stage of this dreadful cancer, and will require 12 months of treatment.
As Fiji was recently devastated by Tropical Cyclone Winston it is not appropriate for fundraising to continue in Fiji for the moment; infact we postponed an event at Sheraton Resorts until mid may.
I am entreating those who can, to consider offering a small donation in New Zealand; Thank you
