Yellow Fever wants to give Wellington Phoenix season passes to charitable organisations to use to say thanks to their volunteers.
Wellington
The news that Football Federation Australia (FFA) have declined the Wellington Phoenix a ten year licence extension to compete in the Hyundai A-League has rocked both the fans of the club and the football community as a whole.
As supporters of the club, we want to help the Phoenix show the FFA that they deserve their place in the A-League.
David Gallop, Chief Executive of the the FFA, has listed a number of metrics that the Phoenix need to improve in order to have a continued presence in the A-League. One of these metrics is the number of season memberships that are sold.
The aim of this fundraising effort is to raise money to buy a number of adult+child membership packages (worth $209 each). These will then be donated to organisations around Wellington that have a positive impact on the Wellington community.
We'd like to focus on organisations that have a large base of volunteer workers, to provide a way to say thank you to their volunteers by giving them a day out at a Phoenix match. We believe organisations such as Ronald McDonald House, Wellington Free Ambulance, Canteen and the SPCA fit this criteria, but would love to get ideas for other worthy causes. We won’t strictly limit our campaign to volunteer organisations, so if there are any organisations you believe deserve this opportunity, please send us your ideas via an email to savethenix@yellowfever.co.nz.
Not only will this #SaveTheNix campaign positively contribute to the Wellington community, it will also assist the Phoenix to meet David Gallop’s membership metrics and aid in the Phoenix’s ongoing negotiations with the FFA.
We're involved because we love supporting the Wellington Phoenix and believe that they deserve a place in the Hyundai A-League.
We are also huge supporters of organisations that do positive work for the community, and we already have an ongoing partnership with Ronald McDonald House where we pay for a family to attend each of the Phoenix home games to have a day away from the House.
Thank you! 8 November 2015
On Friday, we passed $10,000 in donations to our campaign. Myself and the rest of the Yellow Fever crew want to thank each and every one of you for believing in what we are doing and helping us make this membership drive a success.
Both the Phoenix and the Welnix group think this campaign is wonderful, and the Phoenix have even offered us discounted season passes. We are going to be able to supply even more charity groups around Wellington with season passes than we initially thought. We've approached an initial set of organisations, and are going to be approaching more early next week thanks to the extra donations that have come through.
Please send an email to savethenix@yellowfever.co.nz and suggest volunteer organisations that we can gift season passes to! As it stands, we may be able to purchase more passes than we have a home for, so the more organisations we can donate the passes to, the better.
Here's a breakdown of the organisations that we've currently locked in, with more to come very soon:
* SPCA (20 adult season passes)
* Neonatel Trust (15)
* Ronald McDonald House (20)
* Te Omanga Hospice (30)
At this point we've offered adult season passes, and we will add in kids memberships on a case by case basis for the recipients of season passes who wish to take kids with them.
While buying a whole bunch of kids memberships would increase the total number of memberships bought, we thought it would be better to only buy them if they are actually going to be used on match days.
Once again, thanks for all the support and please do email us with names of other volunteer organisations!
