We need your donations to help save stranded whales..the more gear we have the sooner we can be at strandings - time is of essence

Northland

Recently we have been envolved in a whale rescue in the far north, this experience has effected us and the wider community.

We would like to help more, as it seems there are more and more of these beachings happening .

We would like to add another trailer kitted out with the essentials needed to keep these animals alive and refloated to give them a chance of surviving.

We need your help....just one matt alone designed to transport a whale is $1000.....

So we are asking for your donation.....

Our story......

OUR WHALE. .......

Originally from Auckland my partner and i moved to Kaitaia 2 years ago, not really knowing anyone but really just had a feeling about the place...

This community has embraced us with there friendship and taken us in like family....never have i ever experienced this deep connection with people i barely know...We are always greeted with a smile and morena .....and over the past 2 days have experienced nothing more humbling than the friendship, hospitality and kindness this community is based on...

On Monday morning 7am...we decided to drive north along the beach looking for a pod a whales that had been reported beached not really expecting to see much - maybe a couple of dead ones but to our surprise and fortune we came across a couple of doc workers trying to upright a whale , of course we pitched in and offered our help...We were then asked if we minded looking after this whale as there were others that needed to be attend too as this was the first heading north of the original 10.

My partner and i were then left in the middle of pretty much no where entrustrd with the care of this beautiful majestic creature - with only a few rules of care...

We talked to her...i even sung to her ( when no one was around my singing isnt the best ) I called her lucy lou...WE called her "our" princess...we fell in love and bonded with this creature that we barely knew...im not a religious person but man did i pray....i put my hands on this girl and willed with all my might that she would be ok...that what we were doing was right..and apologized to her if this was our fault a repercussion of treating this earth so badly....

We hung in there through the ups and downs....the parts where she stressed out and cried where pretty hard....endless trips to the sea to fill our 2 buckets with water to keep her wet.

Slowly one by one the community pulled together and turned up to help...moral support, water bucket relaying, kind words ,food, water and supplies....

It was a very long day and in the end our whale with 7 others were transported to the east coast in convoy.

We spent the night , put up our tent and began the long night shift of keeping these whales alive .

2 hours on 2 hours off...4 in a team we tended to there care the best we could, by morning all 8 were still alive and the streams of volunteers were arriving..

It was an extremly tearful day....tears kept welling up all morning....

The whales were moved to the ocean with teams of volunteers and held just off shore while " Lucy " was taken out via pontoon and a rubby ducky further out in the hopes she would call the others out.

Things didnt go to plan and 2 whales headed back in - they were just too exhausted..

LUCY decided she was heading in too and we got the heads up to get out there and turn our whale around and send her back out....we got her turned around and heading in the right direction.

The 6 of them bobbed around out there just off shore...and were left to hopefully head out and recuperate.....

This morning doc notified us that they were heading back in on a remote part of the shore further up north - they tried 3 times to get them back out to sea but in the end One lonely male was all that was left...im guessing it was Willy, he had the biggest spirt, he didnt stop flapping his tail the whole time....be free willy xxxx

We mourn like you do for someone passing, tears are over flowing, our hearts broken...we may have only met for a short while but in that time Lucy lou, Mose, Sampson, Ora and the others all connected and bonded with those who cared for them .... they were OUR whales for a short time.....xxxxxxx

Use of funds

The funds will be spent on gear to help stranded whales...we would love to be able to kit out a whole trailer , buckets for water, lights for the night shift, life jackets, wetsuits everything needed to help these majestic animals get back in the ocean.
