2yr old Sparkles has suffered a terrible act of cruelty. We are fighting to save her leg after she was deliberately burnt.
Manawatu / Whanganui
On Sat 13th Aug. My 7yr old daughters cat Sparkles limped in with a large cut, missing hair and strange lines running up her legs.
After being rushed to the vets it was clear she had been burnt, cut and a crushed paw as well.
She was stitched up leaving a drain in. Two days latter she was placed on a drip as she wasn't eating and drinking. She recovered and was soon up and about, but the extent of the burns were now obvious. She needs to remain under vet care. She is on daily painkillers, antibiotics and needs to be kept confined to help the leg heal.
Sparkles is going to need expensive skin grafts to save her leg. All donations will go towards care already received and skin grafts so far totalling almost $2000
The probable cause is that she was squirted with flammable liquid at set alight.
A complaint has been laid with the police.
It has been heart breaking to see our sweet Sparkles go through this. The Vets and nurses at Wanganui vets are giving her wonderful care. She has remained very friendly and smochy. She's become a favourite with her lovely disposition.
Sparkles is home 18 September 2016
Hello..It's been a couple of emotional weeks. Sparkles is home and doing well.
The bad news is that the skin grafts on the lower leg, although looked good to begin with, developed an infection and didn't take very well.
The good news is the top graft under the arm pit and upper leg took very well.
And....the really fabulous news is she won't lose her leg! Yay!!!!
Sparkles is very happy to be home. She has taken up residence in my daughters room. She loves her snuggles and even gets breakfast in bed! She still has to be confined and is not allowed to jump around. She is happy in her room and gets time out with us morning and night. I even saw her chasing her favourite toy, pipe cleaners this morning.
This short play time usually wears her out quickly and she then snuggles on my knee before bed time. I love those snuggles.
Sparkles has many more months of healing yet. But to see she hasn't lost faith in people after all she has been though is really humbling.
Also a big thank you to the Vets and nurses who cared for her, it made all the difference in the world. We still have the flower you made for her from bandages.
The photo attached was taken when she had just come home. For some reason she was very cold, so I tucked her up warm under some blankies till she felt better.
