We have now paid the remainder of the term 1 fees for Trevor and Owen. This was 255,000 shillings each (about NZ$100 each). So they can now sit their end of term exams. Thanks to all who have helped :)

  • Back at school at last

Hi, well it has been a long time without school for most Ugandan kids. The schools were closed by Government order from March 2020 until January 2022 although Trevor was able to attend for a short time in 2021. There was some 'learning at home' using paper exercises etc, needless to say no tablets or Zoom happening for them. Owen and Trevor are now back at their school and their fees are paid for half of term 1, I will pay the second half next month. Thanks again for helping out :) This page is closed now as it has timed out for receiving donations. I have some other kids needing support so I will look at starting another page! B x

  • Uganda update - schools still closed - may reopen soon

First, thanks again for your generous contributions to Owen and Trevor's school fees. Also, apologies for the gap between updates. They are both well, however in March 2020 the government closed all schools as part of a national lockdown. In late 2020 (August / September) some schools were allowed to open with social distancing, particularly for students sitting leaving exams. There is not enough room in the schools for all students to keep 2m apart so most stayed at home - including Owen and Trevor. Currently there are Government announcements about all schools opening, but these are still a bit unclear.

Let's hope they can get back learning soon after missing most of a year. Here are some photos of the 2 boys, their mother Cecilia and their older brother Naggie who works as a security guard to support them all. Sadly Naggie lost his job due to the COVID economic slowdown late last year and is looking for a new job.

I will post any more news. The remainder of the donations will be sent to Naggie, once schools open again and fees are payable. Thanks again for your kindness it really means a lot to the guys and their mum.

Hi, as short update, the guys are reallly enjoying their school and are overwhelmed by the support from strangers. They have written some letters of thanks but the scans are hard to read. I will post them up when I get better copies. In the meantime here are some pics of the guys at school :) The school motto and values are a lot to live up to... I hope they get at least part way there!

Using your kind donations I have now sent the term 1 fees for Trevor who is starting his first year of high school, his older brother Naggie paid them yesterday. Naggie wrote this to me on whatsapp today:

"Very much appreciated from us all to you there who've done a fabulous task... Cause really Trevor had thought his future was to end after his PLE" (primary leaving exam).

So they are both sorted for tem 1 fees, terms 2 and 3 to go. They are boarding, the fees worked out to 693,000 Ugandan shillings each per term which is NZ$300. I sent 650,000.

Thanks again for all your help, it is making a real difference to these guys. They will send some photos shortly :)
