School fees for Owen and Trevor in Kampala, Uganda

Owen and Trevor are two high school students who live in Kampala. Please help pay for their school fees.

International

Owen and Trevor are two boys in Kampala, capital of Uganda. Owen Ofyorwoth is in Senior 3 (= NZ year 9) and Trevor is just starting Senior 1 (= NZ year 7). In Uganda primary school is often free but most secondary schools charge tuition plus top-up fees to cover stationery, teacher's materials, toilet paper, cleaning products (yes!), etc. Those kids whose parents can't pay can't go to school.

Cecilia their mother is a solo parent and has nothing spare for school fees. Their older brother Naggie helps when he can but again does not have enough funds. Owen has excelled at his school ("Nile High Secondary School") in the last 2 years, he knows that this is his chance for a future (see attached marks - most are 70%+). Trevor is due to start secondary school this term, which began late January.

I have met Owen, Naggie and their mother on visits to Uganda, most recently in January 2019 (I have not yet met Trevor). I know the money will go directly to the school fees, and without these fees the boys cannot continue their education. I would be grateful for any contributions. I can post regular updates on how they are doing - photos, marks etc.

The costs are:

> $NZ250 per term for each student (600,000 Ugandan Shillings). This covers school fees, materials and lunch provided at the school

> Total for 2 boys over the 3 terms is NZ$1500.

> Less $250 I have already paid for Owen this year = $1250 required.

I send the money to Uganda as a bank transfer via Denis, who is my daughter's uncle and who I trust completely. Denis gives the money to Naggie in person, who pays the fees for his brothers and send me the receipts from the school.

Thank you

I first met the brothers and their mother Cecilia on a visit to Uganda in 2018. Since then I have helped with Owen's school fees. I met them through a family connection.

Use of funds

Payment of school fees, lunches and essential materials such as notebooks, pens etc

If there is any surplus I will put this towards their next year's (2021) fees and/or other students.

Thanks you so much, I am really overcome by your generosity, and all those who have helped in this cause. This educational opportunity is really life changing for Owen, Trevor and their Mum, although the school is currently closed due to the national covid policies. I will post some more recent messages from them shortly. You are so kind! https://www.monitor.co.ug/uganda/news/national/education-ministry-dismisses-schools-reopening-talk-1937656
