South Canterbury Roller Skating Clubs Amenities Block Rebuild

$2,731 of $250,000 goal
Given by 18 generous donors in one year

We rebuilt a new international standard skating track & now our next goal is to rebuild our amenities block which the club has outgrown.

Canterbury

SCRSC over the last eight years has seen a resurgence of kids wanting to learn to skate and join the speed team. I think it’s fair to say that the bigger percentage of children in Timaru have been to our rink at some stage. The club caters to all skating abilities from those learning to skate all the way up to those competing on the international stage. Over the years it has produced many successful skaters who have achieved at the highest level both nationally and internationally. Our goal now is to build this up for the future so they can bring their children along to experience the same pleasure they have enjoyed.

After the Christchurch earthquakes our rink was no longer safe to skate on. With a lot of help from our local community, tireless volunteers, and users of the rink, we got the funding together to rebuild this to an international standard.

Our next phase is the rebuild of our amenities block so we can accommodate our skaters, spectators and visitors in comfortable surroundings. Our current building is 53 years old and just does not have the room that is now required.

The new amenities block would help benefit us and the community by:

- Offering our skaters, spectators and hirers, comfortable surroundings and facilities

- Ability to hire out space to businesses/clubs for meetings

- Toilets onsite as currently children need to be escorted to public toilets outside of the facility

- Room to host birthday parties as currently families/party goers have to host their party outside in all the elements

- Designated first aid room

- Shower/s

- Designated room for officials to meet during competitions

- Possible ability to host World Championships

The club is fully run by volunteers and so far we have so far raised $150,000 of the necessary $400,000 to make this venture viable. We need to raise at least another $50,000 before we can start building. Donations of any amount would be gratefully received.

About us

The South Canterbury Roller Skating Club was established in 1962. Over the years it has produced many successful skaters who have achieved at the highest level both nationally and internationally. When the Begg family returned to Timaru in 2005 the facility at Caroline Bay was deteriorating and the club had very few members left. With the help of enthusiastic kids, tireless volunteers, and a vision, skating in South Canterbury began it's resurgence and a new track up to international standards was built. It's now currently the top speed skating club in New Zealand and a large percentage of children in Timaru have been to our rink at some stage and strapped on a pair of skates.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
