Nearly 3 months unplanned in the hospital has created an almost insurmountable financial burden and I need help to recover.
Castor Bay, Auckland
My name is Earl Stevens, and I am seeking your support during this challenging chapter of my life.
On May 9th of this year, I underwent what I believed to be a routine hip revision surgery at North Shore Hospital. Unfortunately, the surgery revealed an infected hip and lasted a gruelling 8 hours with three dedicated surgeons. 8 of the past 11 weeks have been in hospital, undergoing 3 more surgeries to flush the infected hip. Each time, the incision had to be reopened - now 4 times. The latest surgery revealed infection down to the artificial hip joint, so now all the metal in the hip needs to be replaced.
This arduous journey has taken a significant physical and emotional toll, and I have faced numerous setbacks, and now I am preparing for yet another major surgery to combat the infection.
My family and I have persevered throughout this challenging time, but the mounting costs and lack of income have placed tremendous pressure on us.
Next Friday, I have another lengthy surgery to replace the temporary metal parts in my hip on Friday, August 4th. And so, another 2-3 weeks, making 12 out of 15 weeks in hospital. The ultimate goal is to have the final hip fitted in 2 - 3 months’ time, but the path to recovery remains challenging.
Your generous donation to support my recovery journey would be deeply appreciated. Nearly 3 months in the hospital is not something any of us plan for, and your compassionate support will help me get through this trying time.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Earl
