Parafed Manawatu have supported me in sport and I would like to give back. By doing this I will hopefully show others they can do the same

In 2003, Selwyn, then 40, was involved in a car accident and was left a tetraplegic.
At the time of the crash he was managing a dairy farm and loving it, having spent years shearing around the world. Picking up cycling in 2011 he hasnt looked back.
He picked up a hand cycle that was being returned to ACC and agreed to take it on and modify it.
Since then he’s competed in events, the biggest one being 40km as part of the Round the Lake challenge in Taupo. He’s also been around Mt Taranaki a few times.
“The first cycling event I went in, my whole support team went in. It was a great day. Now we look back on it and think how little it was. But it was good, everyone got a buzz.”
Mr Jensen hopes to encourage more people who use wheelchairs to take up handcycling and to enter competitions. "I had always undertaken physical work so it is great to be out training."
Selwyn is training for the Auckland Marathon which is on the 20th of October. It is only the 2nd year that wheelchair users have been permitted to enter and Selwyn would love to take this opportunity to raise some funds and awareness for Parafed Manawatu.
Selwyn would like to thank all the road users around Feilding who smile and wave at him while he is out training.
Parafed Manawatu was founded to provide sporting opportunities for those with a physical or vision impairment.
Our mission is to provide quality programmes, events, opportunities, ,advocacy, guidance and expertise to enable disabled people to be active
Funds will be used by Parafed Manawatu to run more programmes in the community, particularly for cycling and wheelchair sport
