I was selected to go on an educational diplomatic tour of Europe to see how we as New Zealand's Youth can address issues facing the world.
Wellington
This is the first year that the organisation UN Youth has run the Global Development Tour. I was fortunate enough to be selected as one of the 22 delegates to go on this trip but I need your support to be able to get there and take part in this unique opportunity.
The tour is a 29 day trip through Europe where we will visit: Paris, Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, London. Each stop is an educational venture that provides an in-depth analysis of one of the 17 Sustainable Development goals. The trip will culminate in the US where we will take part in the International Youth Assembly at the UN Headquarters where youth from around the world will debate and discuss how to best implement policy to achieve these goals for our world.
This trip is important to me because it is a chance to learn first hand about the 2030 sustainable development goals and how we as the youth of New Zealand can help to ensure we can reach these goals by 2030.
Considering we are such a small country we are usually considered less relevant than many larger countries around us. This is another opportunity on the world stage to show that New Zealand is relevant and that we have important ideas to bring to the international forums of discussion.
Your contribution today will not only help me to attend this trip, but it will also help develop our image as a valuable country that has a unique voice with ample to contribute to the international stage.
I have been involved in UN Youth (the organisation that is running this tour) for the past 5 years now.
UN Youth is a not-for-profit youth organisation that regularly runs a variety of educational workshops and simulations of the United Nations and the EU to promote learning about the role of international organisations in maintaining peace and order in the world.
As an organisation, UN Youth has helped me develop confidence at speaking in public to large audiences as their events usually have hundreds of delegates attending.
During my five years with UN Youth, I have spent three of those as a volunteer of the organisation (UNYouth Highschool Ambassador).
As an ambassador, I have promoted UN Youth and their events at my school and I have organised two Model UNs for my school. These in school events have allowed more students to learn about the importance of diplomacy and negotiation for maintaining international peace and security.
