Sensory playground for students with disabilities

$1,382 of $40,000 goal
Given by 25 generous donors in 2 years

A sensory playground for students with disabilities.

Christchurch, Canterbury

We have been allocated a small piece of land adjacent to Upland Unit on which to develop a playground. It will be wheelchair accessible with an all weather surface with 2 small inground trampolines, 2 regular swings and one large round web swing. The grass area will have 3 balance logs and a small group of stepping logs used for sensory purposes.

It will make a difference to all our students to be able to swing or jump to help self calm and regulate their moods. It is in keeping with our Zones of Regulation programme. It will also benefit students physically on a regular basis.

About us

Upland Unit is a specialist unit for at least 35 students aged 10 to 21 years old. They are all ORS funded and have specialist teachers, therapists and teacher aides working with them.

Use of funds

Installation of a sensory playground for Upland Unit with all weather wheelchair surface with 2 in-ground trampolines, 2 swings and one big basket swing and a grassed area with balance and stepping logs.

Latest update

The digger has levelled the site  7 November 2022

Great news for all our donors. The site has been levelled thanks to Steve Mora for donating his time and talents to clearing our site on Friday. We have put a 40% deposit down on the all weather accessible ground cover for under the equipment. The swings and the trampolines have also had a 40% deposit put down on them and hopefully our funding after 3 more donations are confirmed will bring our target to $91k which is what the costs have increased to now. With deposits being made the price is now fixed. The equipment will arrive in January and be ready to be installed so that it will be finished hopefully by the beginning of 2023 school year.
