I am driving a rickshaw over 2500km across 5 States in India to help raise funds to build a hospital for children born #deaf in Pune, India
International
On 8th December 2019 I will be embarking on one of the biggest adventures I have been on... Driving a Rickshaw (also known as a tuk-tuk) over 2,700 kilometres in 12 days across India!
For those that don't know, a rickshaw is a 3 wheeled vehicle with a top speed of 40 km/h which is normally only used for short journeys around cities or towns.
Once you start to factor in the heat, the uncomfortable driver's seat, the lack of doors and seatbelts (or any of the modern safety features most vehicles have) and the rickshaw's notorious reputation for breaking down, you can understand how much of a challenge this will be!
I am joining 90 volunteers with the aim of raising $4,000 each for Sewa UK to help build a hospital for children born #deaf in Pune, India. With your help I am confident I can smash that target, so I am asking you to dig deep and help me give the gift of hearing to the hearing impaired children of Pune!
Did you know 800 children are born deaf every year in Pune? The majority of these children do not have the ability to receive a proper education - These children are born deaf but they are not mute!
Cochlea Pune for hearing and speech has been a growing charitable trust who specialise in supporting congenitally born deaf children from the ages of 0 - 6 years. Through early detection and intervention, the Coachlea team has become the trusted charity for mothers supporting their children. The charity now supports over 125 children to help them hear and speak with the assistance of over 35 teachers, hearing aids, providing speech therapy and most importantly through the specialist Swaranaad pre-school.
The Swaranaad pre-school is a beacon of hope for many families and children that are suffering, however with their rate of admission they have run out of room and they need your support now. Sewa UK are supporting Coachlea Pune to build a state of the art new pre-school which will allow the Coachlea team to not only provide further support to current children, but also allow the admission of more children.
I have a personal target to raise $4,000 and with your help I am confident that I can smash that! So I am asking you to dig deep and help me give the gift of hearing to the hearing impaired children of Pune.
If you would like any more information or have any questions please feel free to get in touch.
Thank you for your support!
