A goal to raise as much money as we can in one month before I shave my hair off for my darling niece, Sienna aka Boo
Nationwide
Our 4 year old niece, Sienna (aka Boo) has recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma - a form of cancer that originates in the white blood cells.
Boo's hair has started falling out after one round of chemotherapy. She embarks on her second round on 13 July 2014 and we have pledged to raise as much money as we can in one month before she heads back to Auckland for her 3rd round of chemo.
Who are we? We are Tesi Leota, Fal Laga'aia & Mareta Lapa. We are based in Wellington, Brisbane, and Napier. (You can see a pic of us if you scroll through the pictures to the left <<<) As soon as we heard our niece was sick we wanted to do something for her, and this is the most courageous thing we could think of but as Fal puts it, "it's just a drop in the ocean to what Sienna has to go through".
How will we do this? Little Sienna doesn't have a choice but we sure do! We will shave off our beautiful island locks with friends and family present (including Sienna).
What will the money be used for? Primarily the money will go towards travel expenses from Hastings to Auckland (and back) for treatments over the next several months, as well as heating costs (NZ winters can get pretty nasty) and we need to keep her environment warm and cosy, plus anything else her family stands in need of.
When's the big day? Saturday, August 9 2014.
Venue: Tesi & Mareta - Hastings, NZ with Sienna & family.
Venue: Fal - Brisbane, Australia
We welcome anyone and everyone who would like to join us in this great cause to please get in touch. The more the merrier! The date is set so now is the time to get the word out and hopefully as many people as we can giving generously.
One day to go!! 8 August 2014
The support from all our friends and family has been overwhelming. One day to go and I don't know what to say or how I feel... I'm nervous, I'm excited, I'm cold, I just want it done already! I've been pretty calm up until now and have been blessed to have my sister and cousin join in. I went to visit Boo last night,... the first words she said as soon as she saw me, ""Have you shaved your head yet?""... pretty cute coming from a 4 yr old, especially when you're not wearing a hat haha it's comforting to know that she knows what's going on. I told her we'd be twins and she replied, ""Yeah - but your hair's gonna grow back""... so sad that she thinks hers will be gone for good but I look forward to the day she sees it sprouting again. She's a positive little angel, and she goes about her day as normal as she can. For that, I give full credit to her parents, Sharon & Vili. That's all for now - stay tuned for some photos from the big event xoxo
