Help build a new sport and education centre for the children and community of Shelly Park School.

Auckland

Breaking ground:

In July 2020 Shelly Park School broke ground on stage 1 of the school's new outdoor sport and education centre. This was made possible by the efforts of a team of school staff, Board of Trustees and parent volunteers who have driven this process from an idea, to a developed design with building consent while the P.T.A has worked tirelessly to raise funds to support this exciting project. Now we invite you to join our team.

Our exciting future:

The new canopied and astro-turfed facility is to be built on the site of the current aged basketball courts and into the bank on the right hand side of the access to the school from Sunny View Avenue known as "gobi drive". The placement of the new court is such that it will not affect the current views of the neighbouring properties while providing our pupils and community with a state-of-the-art outdoor education, sporting, and recreational facility. The space will have a multi-function turf surface for a range of hard court sports. The development features a pavilion at one end that will provide a centre for learning and coaching activities, changing rooms, toilets, showering and storage facilities and a small kitchen and food preparation facility. There will be tiered seating and landscaped grounds, with the south side of the bank blending into the natural environment. The entire facility will be fenced so access can be controlled.

Why join us:

We are a growing community. Unfortunately space for the children to exercise and play is at a premium, especially in winter when rain and slippery surfaces limit the areas where the children can safely do so. The hall timetable is full every weekday from before school until late in the afternoon with PE classes; dance classes; Kapahaka, gymnastics, basketball and other team practices. Not to mention that a full school assembly is increasingly becoming a bit of a squeeze. The building of this new sports and education facility will not only provide the students of Shelly Park with a fantastic new learning environment, but will further benefit the school community by providing an outdoor space for activities such as assemblies, events, lectures and seminars. Any support you can give us to complete this project will be gratefully received.

Shelly Park has been a great place for Shirley to start school. We are incredibly lucky to have the awesome team of teachers and support staff who help make Shelly Park a great learning environment. Thank you Brian for your efforts over the years in setting a really strong foundation for the school and our kids. We look forward to Ed building on that and bringing a new perspective to our School.
