Shelter for our homeless

$1,715 of $100,000 goal
Given by 33 generous donors in 11 weeks

Helping our homeless with shelter3, safe warm shelter for our communities in need.

Marlborough

💙 Hi, I’m Joel.

I’ve designed and built a practical, low-cost way to support people experiencing homelessness in our community.

I’ve created a tiny camper that can be towed by a bicycle. Inside is a single mattress, solar lighting, a solar phone-charging station, and ample storage. It’s warm, dry, lockable, and thoughtfully designed to provide safety, privacy, and dignity.

This is not a concept — the shelter is already built. I use a mix of new and recycled materials and keep costs extremely low so more people can be helped.

For someone without stable housing, having a secure, weatherproof space can mean better sleep, improved wellbeing, and a sense of independence. My goal is simple: build as many of these shelters as possible and give them directly to people in need.

With your support, this small but powerful idea can make a real difference — one person, one shelter, one act of dignity at a time.

Every dollar raised goes directly toward building more shelters. Donations help cover building materials, solar lighting and phone charging, weatherproofing and security, wheels and towing components, mattresses,a good bicycle and interior storage. Recycled materials are used wherever possible to reduce cost and waste.

Because these shelters are efficient and affordable, even small donations help create another safe, dignified space.

Thankyou!💙

Use of funds

The money donated goes towards materials to constuct the campers, refurbishment of the bicycles and basic bedding/ mattresses.

A big thank you to everyone who’s supported this project so far. Your donations are helping turn ideas into something real and practical. I’m currently working through council approval, which is a key step, and while it takes time, progress is being made. Every bit of support keeps things moving. Truly grateful! 🥰💙🩵

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
