Raising money to help widows from the loss of Sherpa lives in Nepal.

Auckland

On May the 14th 2015 I was destined to depart Auckland New Zealand to Kathmandu where I was to join a group of adventurers on our quest to achieve the worlds highest marathon.

May 29th 2015 less than 100 participants from all over the world will participate in what is said to be "the most adventurous trail run in the world. This adventurous journey takes you to the base of the classic south face of Mt Everest in Nepal.

On Saturday the 25th April a 7.8 magnitude quake hit Nepal destroying buildings in Kathmandu and severely affecting rural areas across the region.

Those in need and the loss of life has been reported to be one of the most tragic earthquakes Nepal has seen in over 80 years. So many lives are lost and the death toll continues to rise.

Due to the earthquake an Avalanche was sparked crashing into Everest base camp killing at least 17 people and injuring at least 61. Leaving up to 100 climbers stranded on the mountain.

Organisations, trusts and specialists from around the world are doing their part to help those in need and I personally am on a journey to do the same.

This run this not only for my own personal journey but to help raise money for the family's in need and the devastating after effects of risks Sherpa put them selves in for the safety of others to reach their ultimate goal of climbing Mt Everest and surrounding mountains in Nepal. This has claimed the lives of many Sherpa.

It is my quest to make sure that 100% of this money goes towards Sherpa widows because of the after effects of the avalanche.

To achieve this I will hand deliver this money to these widows in a village in upper Pangboche. When I attend this Marathon next year and the money I raise for the widows will be hand delivered.

Everest has become more popular over the last 60 years, Sherpas and their families continue to bear much of the risk involved.

Families already devastated by the loss of a loved one must now face uncertain futures without their sole bread-winners.

Simply $130 NZD will feed a widow for around 8-12months and the money will go toward keeping these widows alive.

My promise is to continue these efforts in raising awareness and money for this cause.

Every little bit counts and both myself and the people of Nepal are truly grateful.

I'm involved in this fundraising because I am a mother of two beautiful little girls. My girls have the opportunity to be in a country that schooling is a normal way of society along with finding work. Having the basic pleasure in life like clean water, food and a roof over our head.

This journey to be a role model for those around me that I may influence when teaching or when bringing up my children. We can all do our bit to help those in need. If we all do just a little, it adds up to be so much more.

I have made a promise to do everything in my power to hand deliver all money raised to these widows who lost their parents, children and/or husbands in a village in upper Pangboche.

Once I have completed my 42km Marathon from the Base Camp of Everest to Namche I will not take my rest day and instead trek back over the course I had previously run to hand deliver 100% of the money raised evenly to each widow.

My plan for the future is to raise this awareness of those who are in need and help keep them alive with continued support.

Thank you for yours!
