Please help Shivon & Jesse continue paying their mortgage while Shivon is on her journey back to health..
West Coast
It all started about 18 months ago when Shivon (but I'm going to call her Vonny) and Jess (my oldest brother) found out they were hapu! The excitement soon turned to sadness when the ultrasound didn't detect a heart beat, and Vonny & Jess were told it was a molar pregnancy (google it).
From there it went like this... emergency D&C surgery, eventually HCG levels - the pregnancy hormone - returned to within a normal range and we all thought it was the end.
Fast forward 12 months or so, Vonny thinks she may be pregnant again, 6 or 7 pregnancy tests confirmed so. but the HCG wasn't rising as it should, and ultrasounds couldn't find anything anywhere, so they gave Vonny an injection of methotrexate (Methotrexate is a chemotherapy agent and immune system suppressant).. HCG levels dropped a reasonable amount almost immediately. But within a couple of weeks shot right back up again.. back to the hospital and scan still didn't show anything, so another D&C and the doctors say they "think they got it all". Levels dropped almost immediately again, then rose the following week.
By this stage, poor Von is on the verge of a breakdown :(
Another trip to the hospital (bare in mind they live in Franz Josef and closest hospital is Greymouth - 2.5hrs away) resulted in laparoscopy. Thankfully no fallopian tubes had to be removed!! A small scab/mole was removed from the fallopian tube.
This was the day before xmas.
Since then, Shivon has had a CT scan which showed some pregnancy cells in one of her lungs. Doctors aren't sure how or why, but some cells, from way back at the beginning of her molar pregnancy, had gotten into the bloodstream and ended up in her lung.
Finally, some form of diagnosis.
The fix? 4 injections of methotrexate (a chemo agent) per week, week on week off, for the next 6 months.
Which means? Vonny and Jess have to relocate to Greymouth to be closer to hospital, they are now only 1 income, they need to find a house to rent, they need to get their belongings to their new house, and they need to pay their mortgage of $300 per week for the section behind Hokitika...
Please, help me, help them ❤ thanks for reading x
