Shooting for the stars - Help Eligh on his journey to becoming a Paralympian
Northland
My name is Eligh and I have aspirations to one day represent New Zealand at the Paralympic Games in Shooting Para Sport.
Check out my interview with Paralympics NZ:

Shooting Para Sport is the sport of shooting for Para athletes who have a physical impairment leading to reduced function in the lower and/or upper limbs. In competitions that can last up to three hours, Para athletes must place a series of shots as close as possible to the centre of the target. Shooters compete in rifle and pistol events from distances of 10m, 25m and 50m.
The current coaches within Shooting Parasport have recognised my potential and nominated me for the second ever Para Sport Collective, which I was selected for. I am proud to say I was the first ever shooter to be asked to come to this Paralympics initiative.
One of the main challenges and barriers to participating is cost. Living rurally means it takes almost four hours one way for me to attend Shooting Para sport camps and other training opportunities. With the rifles costing between $7000-$10,000 and with no range at home the Parafed Auckland Shooting Club (PASC) is my only available opportunity to train.
I also am not eligible for any financial support from Paralympic NZ until I show promise that I'm an athlete worth investing in.
Help me reach my potential!
I have known Eligh for the past 6 years, almost a year after his spinal injury. The last two years I have witnessed Eligh overcome so many obstacles and challenges. He is a remarkable young person & deserves to have this opportunity and to be successful.
All camps and competitions are based at least four hours away from home. So the funds received will support my travel costs and accommodation to attend both training camps and competitions.
