Nicky’s now facing breast cancer. She’s shown up for so many of us & now it’s our turn to show up for her.
Upper Hutt, Wellington
We’re Michaela and Maz, and we’ve had the privilege of knowing Nicky for nearly 20 years. Michaela met her at a bridal hair trial what started with curls and hairspray quickly became a friendship built on honesty, humour, and far too many reels. Maz has known Nicky for over a decade and still remembers how she showed up with strength, compassion, and laughter when her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Nicky’s the kind of friend who brings food, sends surprise gifts, and remembers things you’ve long forgotten. When Michaela had her baby, Nicky was the first to send a gift to the hospital. She’s always thinking of others even while facing her own health battles, including multiple heart surgeries. She’s tough, kind, hilarious, and never asks for anything in return.
Now it’s our turn to show up for her.
Nicky’s recently been diagnosed with Stage 2 Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma. The lump is small, but the impact is big. She’s about to face a mastectomy, chemo, and possibly radiation. Definitely not how she pictured 2025.
If anyone can take this on with grit, grace, and wicked humour, it’s Nicky. But no one should have to do it alone.
We’ve created this page to support Nicky and her beautiful whānau. Every dollar helps—covering time off work, getting to treatment, and unexpected extras.
If you can give, thank you. If you can share, amazing. And if nothing else check your boobs.
With love, appreciation, and a few guaranteed inappropriate jokes (what Nicky would want) 💕
Maz & Michaela
We’re close friends of Nicky’s who have shared many life moments with her over the past 15+ years and just want to be able to help in some small way.
The funds will help cover time off work, getting to treatment costs, travel, and the unexpected expenses that come with cancer.
Update #2 from Nicky: 1 week post first chemo 28 July 2025
Its been a rough week. Truly has blown my mind how hard this journey is, and how many people have walked this path and still come out smiling.
The day of infusion went well.
I'm having TCH chemo which is made up of 3 different drugs.
It was a very long day.
The days following were honestly horrific. Physically and mentally.
But, here on day 6 I'm feeling the fog shifting.
Its become apparent that I definitely won't be able to work at least one week out of every 3.
And that's ok.
But it makes us very grateful for all the support we are receiving. It makes that possible to still live life comfortably during such a hard time.
A big thank you for all the support and love. Our family really appreciates it so much.
Nicky xx
