Help the women of Silae Vanua buy a computer

$945 of $1,800 goal
Given by 23 generous donors in 5 weeks

Can you help us purchase a computer for the Silae Vanua Market Vendor Association in Vanuatu?

Wellington

Silae Vanua is a group of fresh-produce market vendor-farmers who support each other and work to improve conditions in their market. The association is democratically elected with over 3000 members who supply produce to the central market in the country’s capital, Port Vila.

Over 90% of Silae Vanua’s membership are rural women; mostly subsistence farmers who make money at the market for school fees and health care in their village communities.

Recently the Silae Vanua’s executive secretary, Jeannette Wallace who has worked tirelessly for two years without pay left the association to take up an interest in provincial politics.

Jeannette took her laptop with her and the Silae Vanua executive and new secretary, Annia Joshua are now desperately seeking funds to purchase a new lap top so the association can continue to support its 31 sub associations and members spread throughout small villages on Efate and nearby islands.

Phoebe Morris' involvement (page creator)

Phoebe has created this page for Fiona Morris and Murray Lloyd. They are VSA volunteers and have been working in the UN Women Markets for Change project in Port Vila for nearly two years. Here is a link to a UN Women online exhibition they worked on together which features members of Silae Vanua during the drought in early 2016 - http://www.unwomen.org/en/digital-library/multimedia/2016/5/photo-vanuatu-women-recover-after-cyclone-pam.

Fiona and Murray are sending out this call for funds to friends and family in New Zealand. Just follow the directions on this page. Tank yu tumus - we welcome your support and thank you in advance.

Use of funds

A computer (and office software) is vital for the association to continue its activities. All the money raised from this fundraiser will go towards the purchase of a new computer. If we overshoot our target, funds raised will go toward the purchase of a mobile phone for the association.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
