Natalie is one of my good friends affected by the Duro Limited Liquidation. For her, The liquidation has altered her entire life.
Auckland
This page has been set up for a close friend of mine Natalie, here’s her story.
She’s 31 years old and by 19 she was a young mum with 2 kids. She worked for 10 years in retail and determined to get off the minimum wage and to follow her passion for caring of mothers and their babies she went to university graduating in 2015 with a Bachelor of health science majoring in Nursing. Her nursing career then began in the Neonatal intensive care unit which is perfect for her and the passion she has caring for the Tiny babies in the NICU.
Natalie’s dream to owning her own home has been tough and long but an exciting adventure into the world of "Tiny houses". On the hunt for builders and tradespeople she decided to build through Duro as they claimed to build custom made structurally sound homes to the current codes of compliance. She planned and designed a well thought out home and during a recent open day at Duro she was told that her house “had to win for "most popular" yesterday during the factory tour. “ Natalie is yet to experience unlocking the door to her promised dream home, to have the joy of owning something so spectacular is priceless yet it’s costing her so much financially and emotionally!
To date Natalie has paid over $45K in progress payments which were winding to a finish line that just kept moving further and further away, The deceit and stories kept mounting up and now the end is much further out of reach. Natalie is facing losing all of the money that she’s paid and potentially losing her mostly completed house as to buy the house back from the liquidators is going to be a costly experience, it’s like daylight robbery! She had borrowed the money for her dream home from a relative, which she will continue to pay back for the next 5 years which to her feels like a lifetime away to be starting the process for home ownership from scratch.
The Director of this building company has stung the Tiny House community and burnt a lot of dreams. We have recently learnt of his past and his history of fraud in NZ. Natalie has said that the group of affected people are an amazing group of intelligent individuals that are rallying together to overcome this man and his fraudulent behaviours.

Natalie's little BIG tiny house dream has been something that she has shared with me right from the beginning....the designs and plans- working out how to use every possible space, researching and looking at kitchen designs, the excitement of buying the number plate and little items that are going to make it special for her and the kids.
The journey has been full of ups and a few downs, including some little dance parties of achieving each stage towards this dream.
This news is heart breaking, where to begin to pick yourself up and to support a friend.
This is something that I feel can support not only Natalie but her 2 beautiful kids too.
All funds will be used in the effort to get back her house and to cover any associated costs involved. In the event that there are funds remaining this will go to others affected by the Duro liquidation
