Hi all, just letting you know that we will have some exciting announcements soon. Until then we'd like to keep this page going.
The summer holiday period is a difficult time for many families suffering from domestic violence. As such we are extending our Christmas fund raising appeal to help as many whanau as possible over this period.
So, make it a happy summer for those families at risk & support our fundraising appeal. NZ leads the developed world with respect to family violence rates but with your help & support we can change that.
Thanks so much for your kind support.
Sir Ray
The team at Sahaayta do amazing work in the community and we're thrilled to be able to help out and to hear that the H@H Safety Watch is making a difference for both the team and the people in the community they care for.
Sahaayta director, Sucharita Varma had this to say:
“Our team has found the H@H Safety Watch to be extremely effective and an added value with respect to personal safety during home visits and independent shift duties. Especially night shifts."
"One of our high risk clients is currently wearing the watch. The ability to raise an alarm and get help discreetly has a huge psychological impact on a survivor.”
To find out more about the work Sucharita and her team are doing you can click this link: http://www.sahaayta.org.nz
With your help we will continue to work on supporting others like Sucharita and her team.
For 2 years we have been working with family harm prevention agencies, individual advocates & police to provide advocates & the families they support, with a personal safety watch to keep them safe from harm.
Hundreds of families & advocates have now signed up for the service. Initially we were reliant on people contacting us directly for help. Now we have established ,referral & training centres with 5 advocacy groups in Auckland.
The safety watches have proven to be very effective, preventing 100 families from abuse & potentially death with hundreds more able to live their lives free from the fear of being attacked.
Our partner advocacy groups are now getting direct referrals from local police & although we are very encouraged by the progress to date, there is still more to be done.
We have received tremendous funding support from private donors so far, most notably, the Ted Manson Foundation. Without their support this would not have been possible.
Whilst we continue to lobby government for funding, this is a slow process. Therefore, we are seeking your support to continue the work that Sir Ray started to expand this service across NZ & protect the lives of more Kiwi families suffering from family harm.
Every little bit helps so if you can spare a few $ for a donation or share this link to others who can, we would greatly appreciate it. NZ is a great place to live but sadly, we also lead the OECD in the rate of family harm. With your help, we aim to change that.
