I've been offered the opportunity to travel to Sri Lanka in December of 2017. This is an incredible chance for me to gain hands-on experience working in the mental health sector. On top of applying my years of study to the real world in the psychiatric hospital, I will also be teaching English and working with children with special needs.
Not only will working in Sri Lanka allow me to apply my knowledge and adapt it to a different culture, it will also help me learn and I can bring all of this back with me to New Zealand as I move on to further study.
Sri Lanka is in more need of psychological help than it is currently getting after the likes of the 2004 tsunami. And whilst I would like to be able to cover these costs myself, it isn't realistic to be able to do that when I'm still studying full time, so help me help others, any donation is heavily appreciated!
Use of funds
All of the money raised here will be going to cover the costs of volunteering. This includes money for families allowing me into their homes, food, transport, and the training I will receive.
