Holding your newborn baby, snuggling them close and watching them grow. These should be the right of every parent, help set things right
Wellington
When a child comes into the world they are entirely innocent, pure and deserving of all the love they could possibly receive.
When a couple love each other, build a life together and commit all of themselves to build a family, nobody should have the right to tear them apart.
I believe this to the core of my being,
The breaking up of Skye's family has come as a shock to her and our extended community. Skye and Andy had to fight through the lawyers to be allowed to enjoy the birth of baby Tyger together, but it was a bittersweet moment meeting their precious child for the first time. Knowing that your husband, provider and the father of the miracle you hold in your arms is to be deported in the coming days.
While we can all understand that their are restrictions around immigration is it too much to expect that a loving family should be treated fairly with empathy and compassion?
Andy has been deported and been issued a five year travel restriction. In addition Skye has received the news that they are responsible for around $20,000.00 worth of deportation and lawyers fees.
The splitting up of this beautiful loving family is a social injustice. Taking a family that pays its own way in life and tearing it apart has left a wife without a husband, a child without his father, a family with no way to support itself and a crippling amount of debt.
Working in the performing arts is difficult at the best of times, work is not regular and often gigs are planned up to a year in advance. Skye has made a living as a circus artist for many years, with a baby on the way they planned for her to have a break to look after Tyger and recover from pregnancy. This means that there is no real income for the remainder of the year.
The process of the deportation as currently being questioned through the ombudsmen's office. This process could take over a year with no guarantees of a positive result.
If the deportation fees are cleared then it is possible through the lawyers to get the travel restrictions lifted and bring this family back together.
The funds raised are primarily for the clearing of the deportation fees. If we manage to clear that debt we want to send Skye and Tyger for some much needed family time with Andy in Jamaica.
We need your help to make this happen for Skye, Andy and baby Tyger.
Our circus community is a diverse and far travelled group. Despite this, maybe even because of it we are more a family than any other social group I know. This is why I had to take action. Our family has committed to helping Skye's family through this time however we can.
People say that money cannot buy you happiness....
I believe that we have just been spending it on the wrong things.
I have never regretted giving time, energy or money to those people who really need it. The happiest and most fulfilling moments of my have been those that come from the selfless desire to help someone in need.
When I found out what Skye was going through I felt real empathy. "How can I help?" was the first thing that went through my mind, I am lucky enough to live in wellington and have the means to help out.
Creating this page is a means to allow the extended community in NZ, Australia and around the world to help in a real way to bring this family back together.
