Solo dad and two kids lost everything in a car theft and crash just after moving to Christchurch, help them rebuild their lives from scratch
Christchurch, Canterbury
After moving to Christchurch for a fresh start, a solo dad and his two young children lost everything in a matter of minutes.
He had just arrived from Auckland, parked and locked his car and brought his tired children inside to bed. In the short time it took to settle her in, his car was stolen from right outside the house. Inside that car was everything they owned: clothing, toys, personal documents, household items, everything they had brought to begin their new life.
Tragically, the car was later found completely wrecked after a crash in Burnside. Nothing could be recovered, and heartbreakingly, the dad did not have insurance. Everything they owned is now gone.
With no belongings, no transport, and no safety net, no insurance, this father is left to rebuild from scratch with two young children to care for.
